Zenvo isn’t new to the world of exotic hypercars – the Danish car company has been building extreme sports cars for more than 15 years. But a few years ago, the company turned the page on its next chapter when it announced plans to produce a new model called Aurora. This eye-catching V12 sports car should breath new life into the company when it arrives next year.

“The Aurora is best described as an equilibrium of extremes,” said Jens Sverdrup, Chairman of The Board and Chief Commercial Officer, Zenvo. “We just wanted to build an uncompromised driver’s car, which delivered on every level, but without any one aspect negatively impacting another. It was approached in a very Danish way, meaning every part is carefully considered, and we wanted to introduce this style and design philosophy to the hypercar segment. The outcome has given us two models, which complement each other, deliver true driving pleasure and, almost as a by-product, offer incredible performance.”

The party piece of the new Aurora is a newly-developed 6.6-liter quad-turbo V12 engine that puts out 1,250 horsepower and revs to 9,800 rpm scream. According to Zenvo, this is the most powerful production V12 ever built. This bespoke powerplant utilizes a 90-degree hot-V configuration and integrates with an advanced hybrid drive system. The V12 will be teamed with a new 7-speed automatic transmission with an electric reverse gear. But 1,250 horsepower apparently wasn’t enough – the Aurora will also feature up to three lightweight electric motors, which blend with the V12 to deliver a total 1,850 horsepower. With the instant torque of the electric motors, throttle response should be smooth and instantaneous. Zenvo expects the Aurora should have about 20 miles of EV range available.

The Aurora is built on a modular carbon-fiber monocoque developed with Managing Composites out of Spain. This adds stiffness and strength to the structure for improved driving dynamics.

“The chassis and the components of Aurora are all works of art, and we made a very definite decision that we did not want to hide these details away under a monolithic design,” said Christian Brandt, Zenvo Chief Designer. “It is like a complex timepiece or the skeletal architecture of a motorcycle, where the inner workings are the fascinating part, and we wanted to showcase as much of the chassis, the engine, and the suspension as we could.”

There will be two different versions of the Aurora – Agil and Tur. Both have the same V12 engine, but as the names suggest, the Agil is set up for more enthusiastic driving while the Tur provides a more refined appearance and ride quality.

The Aurora Agil gets different styling that not only gives the sports car a more aggressive look, it creates higher levels of performance for better handling on the track. The Agil features a unique front splitter, improved air flow through the vehicle body, and a large adjustable rear spoiler. The Agil gets just one electric motor for 1,250 horsepower sent to the rear wheels. Zenvo estimates that Agil will sprint to 100 kph (62 mph) in just 2.5 seconds with a top speed of 227 mph.

While it boasts slightly less aggressive styling and a more elegant cabin, the Aurora Tur is the more powerful of the two variants. Two additional electric motors – one on each front wheel – give the Tur all-wheel drive and a total output of 1,850 horses. Zenvo says the Tur will be slightly quicker than the Agil, reaching 100 kph in 2.3 seconds. In 17 seconds, it’s expected that 248 mph will show on the speedometer, and the ultimate top speed is estimated at 280 mph.

With either Aurora variant, the design will certainly turn heads. The body is low and wide with a sleek greenhouse, while large fenders and air intakes indicate the power beneath the skin. Looking from below, the Aurora looks like a racecar with an elegant skin laid across the body.

The Aurora was designed to allow almost unlimited color configurations with multiple body panels able to be presented in different colors. Not only are there countless color options, but the surface can be matte, polished, or even transparent, allowing the carbon fiber body to show through. Interior choices are just as extensive, meaning the odds of two Zenvo Auroras being identical are almost impossible. This example is an Aurora Tur I created working with Zenvo’s designer and configuration software. Unfortunately, I had left my checkbook at home.

Opening the scissor-like doors reveals a simple and elegant cabin with a mix of high-quality materials and the unhidden carbon fiber chassis. Aside from the slim gear selector in the center, all physical controls are on the steering wheel.

The form-fitting sport seats in the Aurora can be trimmed in leather or woven fabric, and the seat design has no visible stitching for a unique look. The roof panel is part of the door, so there’s less chance of bumping your head getting in or out.

Initially, when climbing into the Aurora, I noticed that there was no display screen, just three classic analog gauges with the large tachometer in the center. However, for those who prefer the digital experience, a simple press of a button on the steering wheel spins the gauges around to reveal hidden digital display screens. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will be included, and the screens provide access to other vehicle tech features.

Zenvo has an Aurora prototype that is currently being tested and tuned. The prototype debuted at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and was seen driving around the area during Monterey Car Week. I had the opportunity to hear the prototype start up and drive away, and that V12 engine has a glorious, evil sound, adding another dynamic dimension to the Aurora.

The company plans to begin production in Denmark next year. First deliveries are expected to occur before the end of 2026, and only 50 of each variant are planned. Expect pricing to start around $2.8 million. Following the Aurora will be a convertible version, and Zenvo intends to produce a higher-volume, lower-priced sports car arriving after the Aurora.
