Most new vehicles on the road in the U.S. have front-wheel drive, which can be easier to control as well as more fuel efficient. Even the ever-popular crossover typically has two front wheels doing the motive work. However, at particular times all-wheel drive can be extremely useful — the extra traction provided by power going to all four wheels offers better control when roads become wet, icy or snow covered. All-wheel drive can also provide more confidence when heading off pavement for a little adventuring.
