Big Numbers
A major component of the Monterey Motoring Week are the multiple auctions that take place throughout the area. Collectors will add to their garages, while others hope to sell some of their prized possessions only to use the proceeds to buy something new. Huge numbers were reported from auction houses that include Gooding & Company, RM Sotheby’s, Mecum Auctions and Bonhams. But it was the 1962 Ferrari sold at RM Sotheby’s that headlined the week, selling for almost $50 million.

Top Cars
According to classic car insurer Hagerty, cumulative sales from the auctions around the Monterey Peninsula increased over last year for a total of $367.5 million. Hagerty also reports that almost 100 more vehicles were sold, with the final figure coming in at 841. The average selling price for all auctions was $436,982 — considerably more than your typical new car, or house for that matter. Here are the top 15 cars sold at auction during the 2018 Monterey Motoring Week.
