Extreme Roadster
At the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show last fall, Lamborghini debuted the very sexy Sian limited-edition exotic sports car. Now a lucky few will have the opportunity to enjoy this extreme high-performance machine with the wind in their hair — as the Lamborghini Sian Roadster. The Sian coupe and roadster represent Lamborghini’s first foray into electrification, so the car is aptly named — Sian means flash or lightning in Bolognese dialect.

Extreme Looks
The extreme styling of the new Sian Roadster complements its advanced powertrain. This open-top exotic sits low with an integrated carbon fiber splitter as well as familiar Y-shaped headlights. While it matches the futuristic look of the coupe, the Sian roadster’s roofless design provides those lucky enough to drive it with an unfettered connection to the roar of its powerful V12 engine.

Aerodynamic Styling
In addition to showcasing stunning looks, the Sian’s design is functionally focused with optimized aerodynamics. Air gets directed through the front splitters, flowing through the hood and side air intakes and over the rear spoiler without losing any of the aerodynamics achieved by the coupe.

Rear View
At the rear of the Lamborghini Sian Roadster, innovative active cooling vanes containing “smart-material elements” rotate to provide additional cooling when heated by the exhaust system. The rear wing extends as necessary to enhance driving performance, and the six hexagonal rear taillights are inspired by Lamborghini’s legendary Countach — the car that put the Italian automaker on the world’s radar.

Blu Uranus
While buyers of the Sian Roadster will be able to completely personalize the color and finish of their vehicle, the model presented today has been painted in an eye-catching Blu Uranus (interesting name choice). The interior is white with Blu Glauco detailing. Wheels get finished in Oro Electrum — a color chosen to represent the Sian’s electrified powertrain.

Electrified Power
Like the Sian coupe, the Sian Roadster is powered by a 6.5-liter V12 engine, upgraded with titanium intake valves, that produces 785 horses — the most power ever derived from a Lamborghini engine. The V12 gets supplemented with a 48-volt electric motor delivering 34-horsepower for a total output of 819 horses. Engineers integrated the electric motor within the gearbox for instant response; the motor is also used for low-speed operation when backing up or parking.

Supercapacitor
The Sian Roadster uses a supercapacitor to store energy, rather than more common lithium-ion batteries. According to Lamborghini, the supercapacitor is three times more powerful than a battery of the same weight. The Sian’s advanced regenerative braking system allows the supercapacitor to be fully charged every time the brakes are applied. That power is then available for instant boost at any speed up to 80 mph. This electric boost also smooths gear changes, filling in torque during shifts to provide strong, constant acceleration.
