2021 Indy 500 Winner
Last year fan favorite Helio Castroneves earned his fourth Indy 500 victory, joining an elite group previously consisting of three other drivers who have won the race four times each: A.J. Foyt, Al Unser and Rick Mears. Castroneves drove the No. 06 AutoNation/Sirius XM Honda for Meyer Shank Racing to the team’s first Indy win by passing Alex Palou on the outside of Turn 1 on lap 199 and holding off the Spaniard at the finish line to win by .4928 of a second. As the only active driver of the four drivers with four wins, Castroneves holds the unique position of being able to win an unprecedented fifth Indy 500 at the 106th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on Sunday, May 29th, 2022. Read on for a look back at all Indy 500 winners, from the first race in 1911 to the present. Note: The Indianapolis 500 was not run between 1917–18 and 1942–45 because of World Wars I and II, respectively.
