Less than one year ago, Hyundai came to market with the IONIQ 5, a compact crossover and the first vehicle built on Hyundai’s new Electric-Global Modular Platform. The E-GMP is a dedicated battery-electric infrastructure that lets engineers and designers maximize performance and interior volume. Now the automaker continues its journey toward full electrification with the introduction of the Hyundai IONIQ 6.

Electrified Streamliner
One of the most aerodynamic Hyundai models ever built, the Korea-based brand refers to the IONIQ 6 as an Electrified Streamliner. Built on the same E-GMP as the IONIQ 5, this new model takes advantage of the platform’s flexibility, beginning with a long 116-inch wheelbase and an overall length of almost 16 feet. The sleek styling not only provides better efficiency but also projects a unique look among premium sedans.

Single or Dual Motor
The IONIQ 6 will be offered with two- or four-wheel drive as well as short- and long-range battery options. The top-level dual-motor all-wheel-drive IONIQ 6 generates 320 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque, which should provide robust performance. Hyundai expects the dual-motor IONIQ 6 to reach 60 mph in about 5 seconds.

Efficient
Not only will the IONIQ 6 provide impressive performance, it will also be efficient. Hyundai estimates this new EV with rear-wheel drive will consume a mere 14 kwh per 100 miles, which equates to almost 150 MPGe, making it one of the most efficient vehicles on the market. According to Hyundai the IONIQ 6 should be able to travel about 380 miles on a single charge.

Charging
The new E-GMP architecture of the Hyundai IONIQ 6 can support both 400-V and 800-V charging, which means the IONIQ 6 can charge from 10 to 80 percent in less than 20 minutes on a 350-kW charger. Like the IONIQ 5, the IONIQ 6 can be called upon to provide power for accessories during a camping trip or even a power outage. The rear-seat area has an additional power outlet ideal for charging a laptop or other personal device.

Advanced Interior
The IONIQ 6 is one of the most advanced vehicles Hyundai has ever produced, and it possesses an interior to match its advancement. The clean design features dual 12-inch screens that integrate seamlessly — one being the touchscreen infotainment system, while the other creates an innovative customizable driver display.

Personal Space
“IONIQ 6 is designed and engineered to seamlessly enhance our daily lives as space to awaken your potential,” said Hyundai’s Executive Vice President, Global Chief Marketing Officer and Head of Customer Experience Thomas Schemera. “The innovative interior is meticulously thought out as a cocoon-like personal space, enhanced with the latest technologies to create a safe, fun, and stress-free driving experience. The spacious interior, with sustainability and usability at its heart, once again represents a step forward for electric vehicles, in line with the values of our customers,” Schemera noted.
<>Personalization
Hyundai designers went to great lengths to create an interior that can be personalized to driver preference. Dual color ambient lighting lets the driver choose from 64 colors and six preselected themes to enhance the unique feeling of the IONIQ 6 interior. The Speed Sync lighting system changes brightness based on vehicle speed, adding to the overall experience. Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are integrated with the IONIQ’s infotainment system, as is multi-connection Bluetooth support allowing one phone for calls while another provides streaming music. One type-A and four type-C USB ports are standard equipment, and there’s also a premium Bose audio system with eight speakers and subwoofer.

Additional Comfort
The Hyundai IONIQ 6 will be available with new Relaxation Comfort Seats up front, which can be adjusted to a loungelike setting. Drivers will also be able to configure steering effort, motor power, accelerator pedal sensitivity and driveline mode, further customizing the drive.

Coming Soon
Hyundai will start production of the IONIQ 6 during the third quarter of 2022, with deliveries expected to begin soon after. Watch for pricing to be released closer to the on-sale date.
