Most new vehicles on the road in the U.S. are front-wheel drive, which can be easier to control than rear-wheel drive, as well as offer better fuel efficiency. However, in certain situations all-wheel drive can be extremely useful — the extra traction provided by power going to all four wheels offers better control when roads become wet, icy and/or snowy. All-wheel drive can also provide more confidence when heading off pavement for a little adventuring.
