New Cars for 2021 — And Beyond
Saying that 2020 presented challenges for the worldwide auto industry could be the understatement of the century. After the Chicago Auto Show in February, one by one all major auto shows were cancelled as the COVID-19 pandemic grew. However, car companies still had new, exciting vehicles in the pipeline, so virtual new car launches became the blueprint for the remainder of 2020. What follows are new models introduced last year that will begin arriving soon, as well as during the next couple of years. This coverage includes a few concept vehicles that won’t be going into production per se, although they represent new models that automakers have under consideration.

2021 Acura RDX PMC Edition
At Acura’s Performance Management Center in Marysville, Ohio, every NSX sports car — the brand’s halo vehicle — gets hand assembled by master technicians. Now this special treatment will be given to the Acura RDX crossover. Following PMC Editions of the TLX and MDX, the RDX PMC Edition will top the popular crossover’s lineup. The 2021 Acura RDX PMC Edition will be easy to spy in the wild, painted exclusively in head-turning Thermal Orange Pearl — a color it shares with the high-performance NSX. To contrast with the retina-burning Thermal Orange Pearl paint, the 2021 Acura RDX PMC Edition gets a black Diamond Pentagon grille with a body color surround. The roof, door handles and mirrors are all covered in gloss black paint as well.

2021 Acura RDX PMC Edition
Acura combines the features of the RDX A-Spec and the RDX Advance Package to create the fully loaded RDX PMC. The exterior color palette of the RDX PMC Edition is orange with black trim; the interior color scheme is the opposite. Sport seats get swathed in Ebony Milano leather with black Ultrasuede inserts and stitched in a contrasting orange. Each Acura RDX PMC Edition will feature a numbered serial plate in the center console, further showcasing the exclusivity of this limited-run variant. Acura will produce a mere 360 RDX PMC Editions for North America, with the first customer deliveries beginning in October.

2021 Acura TLX
Acura has removed the wraps from the next generation of its midsize TLX sport sedan, and Honda’s luxury brand refers to this exciting new car as the “quickest, best-handling and most well-appointed sedan in the brand’s 35-year history.” A bold claim to be sure, but with new chassis architecture, dynamic styling and a more powerful line of engines, all these splendid descriptors should be true. Not only is the TLX all new for 2021, Acura has announced the brand will be bringing back the Type S — a high-performance variant that hasn’t been around since the 2008 Acura TL. This second-generation Acura TLX is a dead ringer for the Type S Concept shown last August during Monterey Car Week. The low, wide stance gives the new TLX a high-performance look, further enhanced by an updated diamond pentagon grille flanked by next-generation Jewel Eye LED headlights.

2021 Acura TLX
The new TLX gets plenty of upgrades and more power, but the return of the Type S is the big news. The new TLX Type S stands out thanks to a unique open-surface diamond pentagon grille, larger side air intakes, an aggressive front splitter, a decklid spoiler, large quad exhaust outlets and two 20-inch wheel options. More details about this high-performance TLX will be released early next year, although we do know the Type S will have Acura’s Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive as well as a turbocharged V6 engine likely to produce in excess of 300 horsepower.

Aston Martin V12 Speedster
Aston Martin offers some of the most exclusive, high-performance sports cars in the world, but the bar can always be raised. The company has done that with the introduction of the stunning V12 Speedster. Still on the drawing board 12 months ago, this special Aston Martin is now reality thanks to an intensive development program by the British marque’s bespoke customization service called Q by Aston Martin. The underpinnings of the sexy V12 Speedster are unique; however, the chassis uses the latest bonded aluminum architecture based on the DBS Superleggera and Vantage models. The unique body of the V12 Speedster is constructed almost exclusively from carbon fiber. Styling is both modern and retro, relying on cues from Aston Martin’s storied past.

Aston Martin V12 Speedster
With power to match its sleek styling, the V12 Speedster boasts a 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 engine that generates 700 horsepower and 555 lb-ft of torque, teamed with a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission. Power gets sent to the rear wheels through a limited-slip differential for better control. The result of this massive powerplant pinned within the V12 Speedster’s lightweight chassis is a sprint to 62 mph in 3.5 seconds, as well as a top speed of 186 mph. The interior of the Aston Martin V12 Speedster is elegant and purposeful, using a mix of modern materials such as satin carbon fiber as well as more traditional materials such as handcrafted leather, chrome and aluminum. The V12 Speedster is available for order; however, total production will be limited to a mere 88 copies. With a base price of $950,000, the first V12 Speedsters are expected to be delivered in early 2021.

2021 Bentley Bentayga
Incorporating design language from the third-generation Continental GT and the all-new Flying Spur, the Bentley Bentayga receives a fresh look for the 2021 model year. According to Bentley, every panel as well as the front and rear of Bentayga has been restyled for a cleaner more modern look. Up front, the new matrix grille is larger and more upright, pushing the new LED matrix headlights higher and farther apart. The elliptical headlights are a first for Bentley with a cut-crystal design so they appear to sparkle even when unlit. A new 22-inch wheel design is offered in two finishes for a total of five available wheel choices.

2021 Bentley Bentayga
Inside, the updated Bentayga gets new seats, improved rear-seat legroom and an upgraded infotainment system. Seats have a more sculpted shape, new foam and new cover designs with available contrast stitching, hand cross stitching or micro piping. Other interior updates include revised door panels, new horizontal door handles, a new steering wheel and a new digital instrument cluster. Initially the 2021 Bentayga will be powered by a 4.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged V8 engine producing 542 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque, combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. According to Bentley specifications, Bentayga V8 will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds with a top track speed of 180 mph.

2022 BMW iX
The iX represents the fully electric version of what BMW calls a Sports Activity Vehicle, which gets built on a modular, scalable architecture for a new generation of BMW products. The German automaker says these new vehicles will “redefine the driving experience, the feeling of space inside and the relationship between vehicles and those on board.” No small undertaking. The iX will employ the fifth generation of BMW eDrive technology that incorporates two electric motors, a high-voltage battery and improved charging technology. This new electric power unit is expected to generate about 500 horsepower — which should be more than adequate to move the iX to 62 mph in less than 5 seconds.

2022 BMW iX
A futuristic take on BMW’s traditional kidney grille and twin headlights means the iX won’t be mistaken for anything other than a BMW. The full LED headlights are the slimmest ever used on a BMW, flanking the large grille and flowing smoothly into the sculpted hood. The hood mimics the grille design for a 3D effect. The iX is about the same length and width as a BMW X5 and almost the same height as an X6. In keeping with the slippery nature of the iX design, door handles fit flush with door surfaces. Doors also have frameless windows and exterior mirrors optimized for airflow and visibility. The iX is slated to go into production at the BMW plant in Dingolfing, Germany, during the second half of 2021. First deliveries to the U.S. are expected to follow in early 2022.

2021 BMW 4 Series Coupe
At last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, BMW revealed the Concept 4 — an advance look at an upcoming 4 Series Coupe — and the biggest industry talking point ended up being a large vertical rendition of BMW’s classic kidney grille. Although it has been toned down from the show car in Germany, the new 4 Series retains many of the styling cues introduced on that concept — including the attention-getting grille. In addition to the updated styling, the second-generation BMW 4 Series Coupe receives more power, improved performance and a slew of new features. A full 5.2 inches longer than the previous-generation 4 Series, the 2021 model possesses a long hood, sleek roofline and powerful fenders.

2021 BMW 4 Series Coupe
The 2021 BMW 4 Series Coupe has new power-adjustable sport seats as well as a leather-wrapped Sport steering wheel. The start button is now in the center console along with a new gearshift and the latest iDrive controller. All interior lighting is now LED, and BMW offers an optional ambient lighting system. An 8.8-inch center display is standard in the 2021 BMW 4 Series Coupe, with the option of upgrading to a 10.25-inch horizontal touchscreen with a 12.3-inch digital instrument display. The 4 Series is available with a choice of two engines, and both deliver more power and torque than powerplants of the previous generation. The BMW 430i gets an updated 2.0-liter TwinPower turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing 255 horsepower, while the top-level M440i gets fitted with a 3.0-liter TwinPower turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine that produces 382 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.

2021 BMW ALPINA XB7
The BMW X7 resides at the top of the German automaker’s SUV lineup, offering the most space within incredibly luxurious surroundings. Now the good folks at ALPINA — the Bavarian auto manufacturer that made a name for itself by reconfiguring high-performance BMW vehicles — have had their way with this big SUV and are introducing the all-new ALPINA XB7. When it comes to exterior styling, ALPINA sticks with subtle updates to the standard BMW X7. Up front, larger air intakes improve airflow to the engine, and lower bodywork emblazoned with ALPINA lettering reduces lift for improved high-speed stability. At the rear, dual twin tailpipes integrate well with the bumper for some stylistic flair.

2021 BMW ALPINA XB7
The ALPINA XB7 is powered by a 4.4-liter biturbo V8 engine delivering 612 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. With that much power and excellent traction, the XB7 can sprint to 60 mph in 4 seconds with an ultimate top speed of 180 mph. The XB7 is bound to make some appreciable noise as well, thanks to an all-new stainless steel ALPINA sport exhaust system. However, ALPINA models are not simply about performance upgrades — they also upgrade the level of luxury. All occupants will enjoy the Merino leather trim, multicontour seats, soft-close doors, Alcantara headliner, Myrtlewood trim and a panoramic glass sunroof.

2021 BMW M3 / M4
Thirty-five years after the premiere of the first M variant, BMW introduces the latest M3 sedan and M4 coupe. Both models offer updated styling, more power, improved performance and the impressive road and track capabilities expected of a BMW M vehicle. Love it or hate it, the large kidney grille introduced on the BMW 4 Series carries through to the new M3 and M4. According to BMW, this massive opening — as well as additional air intakes — provides the required airflow to keep the powerful engine cool. Contours of the hood match the new grille, providing an appearance of airflow. Slim LED headlights flank the kidney grille and incorporate stylish fiber-optic daytime running lights. Although slight differentiators exist, both coupe and sedan share the same front-end styling.

2021 BMW M3 / M4
A 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine producing 473 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque powers the new M3 and M4, representing a leap of almost 50 horses versus the current generation. For an additional boost, buyers can opt for the M3 Competition or M4 Competition trims, which make 503 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque out of the same 3.0-liter engine. Although many automakers have been eliminating manual transmissions in their performance vehicles, BMW will deliver the M3 an M4 with a 6-speed manual gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels. With the Gear Shift Assistant engaged, the system automatically matches revs for downshifts, making any driver feel like a professional. According to BMW, the 2021 BMW M3 sedan and M4 coupe can reach 60 mph in 4.1 seconds, while the more powerful Competition variants complete the same task in a mere 3.8 seconds. With enough track, top speed maxes out at 180 mph.

2021 BMW M5
Introduced in 1979, the first M5 was the motorsport division’s second car (the first being the breathtaking M1). During the 1980s the M5 set the standard for European sport sedans; the all-new 2021 model is likely to continue to reset the bar. The 2021 BMW M5 stands out with a larger kidney grille that extends lower into the redesigned front bumper and features a single-piece chrome surround. Adaptive full-LED headlights are slimmer with new L-shaped light tubes. Inside, the new M5 gets the standard Live Cockpit Professional with iDrive 7, a 12.3-inch instrument display, and a new 12.3-inch digital center information display replaces the previous 10.25-inch unit.

2021 BMW M5
The M5 Sedan continues to be powered by a 4.4-liter TwinPower turbocharged V8 engine producing 600 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque from 1800 rpm. According to BMW, the M5 will jump to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds, eventually reaching as high as 190 mph. The M5 Competition gets a bump to 617 horsepower, making it a tenth of a second faster to 60 mph. Power gets delivered through an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission to the rear-biased M xDrive all-wheel-drive system. At the rear, the Active M Differential splits torque between left and right wheels.

Bugatti Bolide
Some of the world’s most extreme sports car designs have emerged from French automaker Bugatti, and now the company contemplates the development of a hypercar that would rocket to an entirely new level of capability. Appropriately named Bolide — which in French means racing car and in English meteor — this track-focused sports car would harness the savage power produced by Bugatti’s W16 engine in a lightweight package built with ultimate performance in mind.

The Bolide would be motivated by the 8.0-liter W16 engine from the automaker’s Chiron supercar, but with four new turbochargers designed to build boost and power at higher engine speeds. Engine output increases to an immense 1825 horsepower and 1365 lb-ft of torque. The Bolide would optimize both engine and gearbox for extraordinary speed and outrageous performance on a racetrack. Bugatti engineers designed Bolide to employ racing brakes — both ceramic discs and coatings — with calipers that weigh slightly more than five pounds each. Forged magnesium wheels —strong and lightweight — would be shod with wide Michelin racing slicks. Bugatti has not decided if the Bolide will go into production. If the automaker chooses to build this extraordinary machine, the entire run will likely sell out immediately — no matter what the price.

2021 Cadillac Escalade
Cadillac has taken the wraps off an all-new 2021 Cadillac Escalade, launching the fifth generation of this iconic vehicle with fresh styling, new powertrains and a range of innovative high-tech features. Even though Escalade has all-new exterior styling, there will be no mistaking it for anything else, thanks to a grille style and shape that has become familiar across the Cadillac lineup. For Escalade it looms much larger with a large Cadillac crest at its the center. The vertical lighting motif continues with thin LED running lights; however, the slim headlights sit horizontally, flanking the top of the grille. At the rear signature vertical taillights span the height of the vehicle but are enhanced with a three-dimensional look. Standard 22-inch wheels complete the bold presence.

2021 Cadillac Escalade
The 2021 Escalade will be available with two engine options at launch. The standard powertrain features a new 6.2-liter V8 producing 420 horsepower. Also available for the first time is a 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine producing 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque at a low 1500 rpm, which should be ideal for those who need the Escalade for towing. Both engines get teamed with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Inside, the 2021 Cadillac Escalade introduces the auto industry’s first curved OLED display screen in the dashboard, further setting this luxury SUV apart from the competition. The new Escalade gets built with advanced architecture on a new chassis that helps increase interior space, representing 40 percent more legroom in the third row and almost 70 percent more cargo space behind it.

2023 Cadillac LYRIQ
Earlier this year Cadillac provided a look to the future — and that future is electrified. The all-new LYRIQ will be the brand’s first fully electric vehicle, ushering in advances to batteries and propulsion as well as introducing a new design language for future Cadillac models. The LYRIQ is anticipated to be the first in a range of new electric offerings from GM’s luxury brand. Given the overwhelming popularity of SUVs and crossovers in America, it’s no surprise that the new LYRIQ adopts the shape of these utilitarian people movers. The new LYRIQ carries classis SUV lines, although a sleek roofline and steeply raked windshield give the new Cadillac a more refined, sporty look.

2023 Cadillac LYRIQ
Cadillac will build the LYRIQ on GM’s next-generation modular dedicated electric vehicle platform that incorporates a new Ultium propulsion system. At the heart of this new Cadillac EV is the Ultium battery system. Expected to deliver 100 kWh of energy, this advanced battery uses nickel-cobalt-manganese-aluminum chemistry. By using aluminum in the cathode, GM engineers were able to reduce the reliance on rarer materials such as cobalt, making the system more viable into the future. The Cadillac LYRIQ is still considered a show car. Although this vehicle is anticipated to be representative of the final version, production of the LYRIQ is not slated to begin until late 2022 as a 2023 model.

2021 Chrysler Pacifica
More than 35 years ago, Chrysler invented what we know today as the minivan, and at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show in February the company premiered the latest version of its minivan offering, the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica. The results of its first refresh since its introduction in 2017, the Pacifica gets a new visage designed to give the minivan more of a sport-utility vibe. The primary grille is much larger than the previous version, while the lower grille mimics the style of the upper. Headlights are all new and incorporate a new LED running light style. LED headlights and taillights are standard on all versions of the 2021 Pacifica.

2021 Chrysler Pacifica
Intent on offering capabilities similar to those of popular crossovers and — in response to customer demand — the 2021 Pacifica will be offered with all-wheel drive for the first time. The seamless system requires no driver interaction, and it can transfer up to 100 percent of the power to the rear wheels. When the AWD system isn’t needed, the rear drive is completely disconnected for improved fuel efficiency. Chrysler designed the AWD system so it doesn’t interfere with one of the Pacifica’s top features: Stow n’ Go seats. Both rear-seat rows can still be folded into the floor for easy conversion to a large, flat cargo space. The New Pacifica will also come with Uconnect 5, the latest version of the company’s infotainment system with its centerpiece being an all-new 10.1-inch touchscreen.

2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye
There seems to be no limit to the raw power Dodge is willing to put under the hood of a production car, and the latest model to celebrate this great notion is the all-new 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye. With almost 800 horsepower on tap, the new Charger Redeye will be the most powerful mass-produced sedan in the world. The 2021 Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye comes with Dodge’s new Widebody exterior that features integrated fender flares and adds 3.5-inches to the body. Not only does this improve overall handling, it also makes room for 20-inch Lightweight Carbon Black wheels. A new performance hood and large functional hood scoop add to the overall aggressive look providing additional airflow to the big V8 as well.

2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye
Under the hood of the 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye lurks the engine that powered the outrageous Challenger SRT Demon, alas no longer in production: a 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI high-output V8 that generates 797 horsepower and 707 lb-ft of torque. Performance figures for the 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye are impressive — although not surprising — with so much power on tap. This full-size sedan takes about 3.5 seconds to reach 60 mph and can cover the quarter mile in 10.6 seconds at a speed of 129 mph. With enough room, the Charger Redeye will ultimately reach 203 mph. Fuel economy is rated at 22 mpg when driving calmly on the highway; however, at full throttle the Redeye would drain the tank in about 11 minutes.

2021 Dodge Durango Hellcat
When it comes to performance vehicles, Dodge has made a name for itself and that name is Hellcat. Vehicles in the Hellcat series have supercharged HEMI V8 engines with more than 700 horsepower — an insane figure for road-going cars built for everyday driving. Now Dodge adds to the Hellcat portfolio with something guaranteed to entertain the whole family: the all-new Durango SRT Hellcat. With 710 horsepower on tap and three rows of seats, the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat becomes the most powerful production SUV on the road, as well as one of the quickest — this big SUV will sprint to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.

Easy to spot in the wild, this massive Hellcat SUV makes strides with an aggressive front fascia, LED headlights with signature LED running lights, a new two-piece chin splitter and a unique low-gloss black grille designed for better air intake. The big supercharged V8 engine needs plenty of cold air — provided by the functional hood scoop as well as the deletion of Durango’s fog lights to create additional air intakes in the fascia. 2021 Ford Bronco
More than 50 years after the introduction of the original Bronco family, Ford introduces an all-new family of Bronco vehicles. With styling clearly reminiscent of the original, the new Bronco will be available as a 2-door model and — for the first time — it will also be offered as a four door. Rounding out the new Bronco family is a smaller yet still capable Bronco Sport. Like the original, the new Bronco will be built for off-road adventures and — also like the original — Jeep is once again Ford’s clear target. Ford will build the 2021 Bronco on new architecture that features a fully boxed high-strength steel chassis.

2021 Ford Bronco
The new Bronco’s available features include a 7-speed manual gearbox, 35-inch tires, a removable roof and doors that can be stowed onboard. Bronco has 11.6 inches of ground clearance and the ability to ford up to 33.5 inches of water. Available in a range of trim levels, the 2021 Bronco will be powered by either a 2.3- or 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine — the latter delivering 310 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. The smaller Bronco Sport has clear ties to the Bronco family, yet it should appeal to a wider audience than pure off-road aficionados. Four-wheel drive is standard on all Bronco Sport trims, ranging from the Base to the top-level Badlands edition. Bronco Sport also features up to seven different G.O.A.T (Go Over Any Terrain) modes to set up the vehicle for a variety of off-road situations or poor weather conditions.

2022 Ford E-Transit
Ford plans to grow its best-selling Transit lineup to include its first fully electric cargo van: the 2022 Ford E-Transit. This electric van will be available in several configurations with features designed to save money and increase productivity — something every business owner loves to hear. With the battery located beneath the floor, the E-Transit makes no sacrifices when it comes to cargo space. The high-roof extended-wheelbase version can handle up to 487.3 cubic feet of cargo. Maximum payload is expected to be 3,800 pounds (4,290 pounds for cutaway versions). For added productivity, Ford will offer the E-Transit with Pro Power Onboard, which provides up to 2.4 kW of power. With this option the E-Transit van becomes a mobile generator that can run power tools such as belt sanders and circular saws.

2022 Ford E-Transit
The 2022 Ford E-Transit will be powered by a single electric motor expected to produce 266 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. Ford estimates the E-Transit’s 67-kWh battery will enable the van to travel up to 126 miles on a single charge (for the low-roof variant). The 2022 Ford E-Transit can be charged from either a typical 120-volt home outlet or a 240-volt Level 2 charger. Ford will offer customers the option to purchase a Ford Connected Charge Station — a device that charges the E-Transit in about 8 hours. With a 115-kW DC fast charger, low-roof E-Transits can recover approximately 30 miles in 10 minutes. When it arrives at the end of 2021, the 2022 Ford E-Transit van will be available with a choice of three roof heights and three body lengths in cargo, cutaway and chassis cab versions.

2021 Ford F-150
Ford Motor Company moves a lot of F-Series pickup trucks. In 2019 the automaker sold almost 900,000 units, making it the 38th consecutive year that this popular pickup has been America’s best-selling vehicle. Hoping to satisfy its dedicated band of loyalists while advancing the truck’s design and features, Ford takes the wraps off the all-new 2021 F-150. With fresh styling, an updated interior, a new hybrid powertrain, a range of innovative and versatile new features and a class-leading 14,000-pound towing capacity, the 2021 Ford F-150 will likely continue the F-Series juggernaut. Ford gives the F-150 bolder, more rugged styling for the 2021 model year with an updated LED headlight design and new signature LED running lights, a new power dome hood and wraparound bumpers. More than these obvious changes, Ford says every exterior panel has been redesigned for the new model year.

2021 Ford F-150
Inside, the 2021 Ford F-150 gets new functionality as well as updated infotainment and storage options. Most noticeable is a new 12-inch touchscreen display that can be split to provide access to multiple functions at once, including navigation, communication, entertainment and truck features. All 2021 Ford F-150s come with the latest version of SYNC 4, Ford’s advanced infotainment and communication system. The F-150 will be available with a range of powertrains, including for the first time a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 Hybrid that boasts 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque as well as the ability to tow 12,700 pounds. Many innovative features will be available on the new F-150, ranging from full-recline seats to an onboard generator.

2021 Genesis G80
Hyundai launched the Genesis luxury line about five years ago, and the G80 became one of the first few models sold by the new brand. For 2021 Genesis introduces an all-new G80 with fresh styling, the latest in high-tech features and improved performance. Following the introduction of the flagship G90 last year, the G80 takes on many styling cues of the larger luxury sedan. Most notable is the large Crest Grille flanked by double-lined quad headlights — now a signature look for the brand. The quad-lamp motif continues to the side with running lights that seem to be a continuation of a line that ends with wraparound LEDs at the rear. The sleek silhouette gives the G80 a sporty, almost fastback look, countered by a “Parabolic Line” that flows over the hood and downward to the rear. 2021 Genesis G80
Two new engines will be available for the 2021 Genesis G80. A 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder unit produces 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque, while those looking for a bit more performance can opt for a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 that ups the output to 375 horsepower. With considerable weight savings over the previous generation thanks to lighter materials, both the G80’s performance and fuel economy should improve. The updated car will be available in multiple trims as rear- or all-wheel drive with either powertrain. Inside is leather-trimmed steering wheel and seats — as well as soft-touch materials and open-pore wood trim — give the G80 a high level of elegance. Narrow air vents span the dashboard to give occupants the impression of a wide cabin, further enhanced by a 14.5-inch infotainment system display.

2021 Genesis GV80
Genesis will expand its offering for the 2021 model year with the brand’s first SUV, the GV80. The GV80 has styling that complements the Genesis lineup, including the familiar Crest Grille and the new headlight style for the brand. The quad narrow lamps create a unique look, similar to the lights revealed on the original GV80 concept vehicle. This three-row SUV features a strong yet lightweight structure made primarily from hot-stamped high-strength steel, with weight savings achieved by building the doors, hood and tailgate out of lightweight aluminum. Constructed on a unique rear-wheel-drive platform, the GV80 can also be equipped with full-time all-wheel drive that features an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential.

2021 Genesis GV80
Looking inside, the GV80 brings fresh interior styling to the brand. Narrow air vents span the dashboard to give the impression of a wide cabin, further enhanced by a 14-inch-wide split-screen infotainment display at the center. A two-tone steering wheel features a single, wide horizontal spoke that spans from hand to hand, with integrated controls at the edges. The center console contains a stylish dial for the GV80’s shift-by-wire transmission, freeing up considerable space. Seats are covered in attractive diamond-pleated leather, and the first two rows can be heated or ventilated. Also adding to motive comfort is what Genesis calls the first-ever use of Road Active Noise Cancelation technology. This system creates sound waves of opposite phase by analyzing road and wind noise in real time and, in effect, canceling it out.

2022 GMC Hummer EV
General Motors is bringing the Hummer name back on an advanced fully electric truck that will sell under the GMC brand. The 2022 GMC Hummer EV is the first model to use GM’s next-generation electric powertrain, providing impressive off-road capability and extreme on-road performance. When the 2022 GMC Hummer EV arrives in the fall of 2021, it will be the first production model from GM to employ new proprietary Ultium Drive battery architecture. “This is the first truck that we have ever designed around an EV propulsion system,” said Adam Kwiatkowski, GM executive chief engineer of global electric propulsion. “Designing the truck and the propulsion system together enhances HUMMER EV’s unique performance capabilities, while also making this the stiffest truck GM has ever built,” Kwiatkowski noted.

2022 GMC Hummer EV
The Hummer EV Edition 1 uses three electric drive motors to produce an estimated 1000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. A single motor will power the front wheels, and an electronic locking differential can send up to 100 percent of the torque to an individual wheel as needed for ultimate traction. Two rear motors will independently power the rear wheels, with the ability to vary torque to each wheel; the motors can also be synced to simulate a locking differential. As part of its adaptive air suspension, the 2022 GMC Hummer EV features Extract Mode, which raises the suspension by 6 inches to a maximum 15.9 inches, making it possible to traverse large obstacles or navigate up to 32 inches of water. The system also allows for almost 13 inches of suspension travel. The Hummer EV Edition 1 will arrive in fall 2021, followed by additional trim levels in fall 2022.

2021 GMC Yukon
GMC is a major player in the competitive full-size SUV marketplace, and the competition has heated up with an all-new Yukon for 2021. The 2021 GMC Yukon is easy to spot compared to the previous version — the new one has a larger, squared-off grille flanked by new LED headlights with a signature LED running light surround. LED fog lights are vertical, further emphasizing a bolder appearance. The bold look of the 2021 GMC Yukon continues at the rear, where the squared-off tailgate has a rear spoiler at the top of the window, as well as larger LED taillights that continue into the tailgate. GMC offers this new Yukon in four trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4 and Denali. Each trim is available in a standard version or extended-length XL.

2021 GMC Yukon
The current Yukon is a big SUV and the new 2021 model is even larger, which translates to increased passenger and cargo room. Measuring 6.1 inches longer than the 2020 Yukon, the 2021 GMC Yukon gets 10 more inches of legroom in the third row as well as an additional 10 cubic feet of cargo room behind it. The 2021 GMC Yukon has two engine choices. Standard on the SLE, SLT and AT4 is a 5.3-liter V8 producing 355 horsepower, while the luxurious Yukon Denali gets a 6.2-liter V8 that generates 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Both engines get teamed with a smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission. Later in 2020 GMC will offer a 3.0-liter Duramax diesel rated at 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque as an option on SLE, SLT and Denali variants.

To become one of the fastest cars in the world, the limited-edition Venom F5 sports car requires some massive motivation. A rear mid-mounted 6.6-liter twin-turbocharged Fury V8 engine powers the F5 and produces 1817 horsepower and 1193 lb-ft of torque, making it the most potent gas-powered sports car in the world. The Hennessey Venom F5 has some equally impressive performance stats. Acceleration to 62 mph (100 kph) takes 2.6 seconds; 124 mph (200 kph) comes up in 4.7 seconds; 186 mph (300 kph) in 8.4 seconds; and 249 mph (400 kph) in less than 16 seconds. Only 24 Venom F5s will be built; the base price starts at $2.1 million.

The Honda Civic remains one of the best-selling vehicles in America — the Japanese automaker intends to continue this success with the introduction of an all-new 11th-generation 2022 Honda Civic. Shown in prototype form, the new Civic premiered on the livestreaming entertainment service Twitch in hopes of appealing to young buyers. Although the next-generation Civic remains easily recognizable, the prototype does reflect noticeable updates. Overall the new sedan has sporty styling with a low hood and fenders, as well as slim headlights set back from an upright grille. The redesigned 2022 Honda Civic prototype possesses a longer hood that moves the cabin rearward to provide a more premium look. A strong shoulder line starts at the top of the front wheelwells and ends smoothly at the taillights.

2021 Hyundai Elantra
Many automotive pundits say the passenger car is dead, and the future of the automobile lies with the crossover. Even though Hyundai has embraced the crossover — a vehicle with SUV looks on a road car chassis — as much as other manufacturers, the company is not quite ready to give up on the traditional sedan. Instead, the Korean automaker is going all-in with the introduction of the all-new 2021 Hyundai Elantra. With standout styling and a range of high-end features as well as the first hybrid version, the Elantra is clearly here to stay. The Elantra has been in America since 1992, and now the sedan moves into its seventh generation with a longer wheelbase, wider stance and lower roofline for a premium look.

Although the exterior is much more expressive than the model it replaces, the 2021 Hyundai Elantra’s interior really shines. Elantra will also be available with the latest high-tech features including wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Hyundai will also offer the Elantra with a hybrid powertrain for the first time with an expected combined fuel economy better than 50 mpg.

2022 Hyundai Tucson
Hyundai has introduced an all-new Tucson for the 2022 model year, available in gasoline, hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions. Longer, wider and taller than the previous generation with a longer wheelbase, the new Tucson has increased passenger and cargo volume. Recently updated Hyundai models such as Sonata and Elantra have adopted much more expressive designs, but the 2022 Tucson takes things a step further with dynamic exterior styling that builds on a series of Hyundai Design Center concept vehicles. The new look embodies what Hyundai designers call “Parametric Dynamics” with kinetic, jewel-like surface details.

Nissan’s luxury brand has taken the wraps off its latest SUV offering: the stylish 2022 Infiniti QX55. With coupelike lines, a powerful turbocharged engine and a high-tech, attractive interior, the QX55 adds next-level sportiness to the Infiniti SUV lineup. Although we’re not fans of the term SUV Coupe, the QX55 certainly does exhibit coupelike styling. Lines flow smoothly from the base of the windshield to the taillights, with a bump at the rear over the taillights. Standard 20-inch wheels add to the vehicle’s overall sporty nature. A favorite design element of the 2022 Infiniti QX55 are “piano key” taillights that each use 45 separate LEDs to create a unique light signature. An integrated rear spoiler and dual exhaust complete the look.

Under the hood of the 2022 QX55 resides a 2.0-liter Variable Compression Turbo 4-cylinder engine that produces 268 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. Power gets managed via a continuously variable transmission with a manual shift mode. The 2022 Infiniti QX55 sends power to all four wheels via Infiniti’s intelligent all-wheel-drive system. Presented digitally to the world from Infiniti’s new headquarters in Yokohama, Japan, the QX60 Monograph represents a more premium SUV design, and its style and proportions provide clear indicators about the next QX60 that arrives in 2021. With three rows and seating for up to seven occupants, the QX60 remains a popular choice for families seeking a premium SUV experience. Infiniti designers intended to keep this functionality while wrapping it in a more aerodynamic, bold package embodied by the QX60 Monograph. Infiniti refers to the Monograph as more than a design study or concept, instead claiming it “provides a tangible insight into how Infiniti plans to transform a future model.”

The Monograph’s signature Infiniti grille features a mesh pattern — inspired by Japanese origami — that appears three-dimensional. At the center is a large Infiniti logo that lights up at night. The profile of the QX60 Monograph showcases a strong hood and sweeping roofline ending at a rear spoiler, and the black roof contrasts yet complements the lighter platinum exterior paint, a combination designed for dramatic effect.

Jaguar seems to be refreshing its entire lineup for 2021, including changes to the entry-level E-PACE. Jeep Grand Wagoneer Concept
In 1962 Jeep introduced the Wagoneer — the first 4-wheel-drive vehicle to employ an automatic transmission — and 20 years later in the 1980s the premium Grand Wagoneer came along. Now Jeep has debuted a Grand Wagoneer Concept that builds on those seminal vehicles, with plans to take the big Jeep into production next year. The grille of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer Concept features the brand’s signature seven slots, but this grille is something special. Each slot has an intricate latticework with a line of LEDs separating each slot; a continuous LED light bar above the grille completes the commanding look. Twin bi-functional LED projector headlights flank the grille, emphasizing the width of this formidable SUV. And WAGONEER gets spelled out immediately below the hoodline in raised, lit letters.

Jeep Grand Wagoneer Concept
The original Jeep Wagoneer has traditionally boxy SUV styling; although this Grand Wagoneer Concept is thoroughly modern, it possesses a profile similar to the original model, further emphasized by its Arctic Ice paint and contrasting Diamond Black roof. The bold trapezoidal wheel arches of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer Concept are also a nod to the original namesake vehicle. However, the concept’s wheels are a far cry from those of the first Grand Wagoneer; the concept has 24-inch multi-spoke Obsidian-finish aluminum wheels with a center cap featuring a Wagoneer logo suspended in acrylic. Inside Jeep designers made use of sustainable materials to create a higher level of luxury than anything in the current Jeep lineup. Multiple display screens can be found in the cabin, including a unique placement in front of the passenger.

The Jeep brand built a strong reputation on the off-road capabilities of its SUVs, especially the legendary Wrangler. Now the company plans to take Wrangler to new heights: heading off-road in complete silence with the first plug-in hybrid Wrangler 4xe. The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe will not only offer electric-only operation, this electric SUV boasts the most potent powertrain in the Wrangler lineup. Most importantly, the 4xe has the same off-road capability as its non-electric siblings. The electric motor integrated within the Wrangler’s 4WD powertrain makes it possible to take advantage of the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe’s off-road capability in full electric mode. Heading down (or up) a trail with the Jeep’s roof and doors off and no engine noise will be a weird, new off-roading experience. An additional benefit is the instant torque that comes from an electric motor, allowing for better control when climbing or crawling.

The Wrangler 4xe’s high-tech powertrain features a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder gas engine and two electric motors for a combined output of 375 horsepower and an impressive 470 lb-ft of torque. Not only is this powertrain the most efficient in the Wrangler lineup, it also offers considerably more power than Wrangler’s standard V6 engine. Although EPA fuel-economy ratings have not been released, Jeep estimates the Wrangler 4xe will deliver 50 MPGe when operating in electric mode, with an electric-only range of about 25 miles.

Touting the first factory V8 engine installed in a Wrangler since 1981, the new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 will be the most powerful and capable Wrangler ever to come directly from the factory. The last time the Jeep Wrangler came with a V8 was 40 years ago — a 5.0-liter unit that produced a measly 125 horsepower. In those four decades technology has advanced considerably — Wrangler now gets a 6.4-liter 392-cubic-inch V8 that generates 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, teamed with an 8-speed automatic transmission. No manual gearbox will be offered with the big V8.

The 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 retains all its off-road prowess, and it definitely becomes quicker when it hits pavement. The sprint to 60 mph will take 4.5 seconds, and this hot-rod Wrangler will pass the quarter mile in a mere 13 seconds. Top speed is rated at 99 mph — limited by its huge off-road tires. When it comes to tackling tough terrain, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 is certainly up to the task. Spec sheets report ground clearance at 10.3 inches, and when necessary this high-performance Jeep can ford up to 32.5 inches of water. The wide track and heavy-duty front and rear Dana 44 axles with electronic locking differentials add to the impressive capability. The 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 will be available exclusively as a 4-door when it begins arriving in showrooms next spring. Pricing will be released closer to the on-sale date.

Many car companies in America have done away with the traditional family sedan, going all-in on the increasingly popular crossover. Not only is Kia sticking by the sedan, the automaker is doubling down with the all-new K5. Replacing the Optima in the heart of Kia’s sedan lineup, the 2021 Kia K5 gets built on an all-new platform with fresh styling, updated features and a range of powerful and efficient engines. The new Kia K5 is longer, lower and wider than the outgoing Optima, which not only gives it a more aggressive stance, it also creates more interior space. The new N3 architecture provides a stiffer structure as well as a tuned suspension, which gives the 2021 Kia K5 better handling and overall ride compared to its predecessor. The new K5 also gets improved sound deadening as well as an acoustic laminated windshield.

The new design boasts a bold front end with a modern take on Kia’s tiger nose design, featuring a wider grille that extends into the headlights and hood. New daytime running lights underline the headlights and drop down to frame the grille shape.

Inside, the new Sorento offers more space and a high-tech look with an available 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster — the first ever offered on a Kia SUV. A surround view monitor employs four cameras to provide a 360-degree view. The available 10.25-inch touchscreen adds haptic feedback buttons and multi-connection Bluetooth connectivity. The 2021 Kia Sorento offers a range engines from a 2.5-liter four cylinder producing 191 horsepower to a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine generating 281 horsepower. Kia also offers the Sorento as a hybrid for the first time, employing a turbocharged 1.6-liter gas engine with a 44-kW electric motor for a combined system output of 227 horsepower. Italian automaker Lamborghini takes extreme to the next level with the introduction of the all-new Essenza SCV12, a limited-edition hypercar designated for track-use only and not legal for on-road driving. The Essenza possesses the most powerful normally aspirated V12 engine the company has ever produced, developed by Lamborghini’s Squadra Corse motorsports division. Ultimately the Lamborghini Essenza SCV12 is a pure race car that its owners will get to experience on the track. The Essenza SCV12’s normally aspirated V12 engine generates more than 830 horsepower, which gets delivered to the rear wheels via a new X-trac sequential 6-speed gearbox.

This hypercar has a lightweight carbon fiber monocoque without an internal roll cage; the power-to-weight ratio is an impressive 1.66 hp/kg. Sitting low and wide, the Essenza SCV12 has a dual air intake in the hood that separates hot air emitted by the radiator while directing cooler air to the air scoop on the roof. Other aero elements include a front splitter with two vertical fins on the side sills. Lamborghini’s traditional hexagonal styling is evident in the headlights as well as the shape of the rooftop air scoop. The track-ready package of the Essenza SCV12 is rounded out with magnesium wheels — 19-inch fronts, 20-inch rears — shod with specific Pirelli slick tires. Brembo Motorsports developed brakes exclusively for the Essenza SCV12.

2021 Lamborghini Huracan STO
Lamborghini produces some of the most exotic and exciting sports cars on the road — and track. Now this Italian company takes a car built for the track and brings it to the street: the Huracan STO. Based on the Huracan Super Trofeo EVO and GT3 EVO race cars, the Lamborghini Huracan STO delivers track-ready performance on public roads. Underscoring the Lamborghini Huracan STO’s overall performance is a lightweight structure featuring body panels constructed primarily from carbon fiber. Rear fenders utilize a carbon fiber sandwich technique that maintains the same rigidity with 25 percent less carbon fiber. The chassis is built from aluminum and carbon fiber, and even windshield weight has been reduced by 20 percent.

2021 Lamborghini Huracan STO
A 5.2-liter normally aspirated V10 engine producing 640 horsepower and 417 lb-ft of torque looms directly behind the Huracan STO cabin. Power gets sent to the rear wheels via a quick-shifting 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Lamborghini engineers calibrated the engine for a more responsive racing experience with improved sharpness at higher revs. The Huracan STO is incredibly quick (not that there are any slow Lamborghinis). Zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 3 seconds, 200 km/h (124 mph) gets passed 6 seconds later. With enough road or track, the STO’s top speed is 193 mph. The Lamborghini Huracan STO will arrive in spring 2021 with a base price of $327,838.

Automobili Lamborghini built its reputation creating extreme, exotic sports cars and supercars with standout styling and stunning performance for road or track. Now these attributes transfer to a Lamborghini-badged vehicle that excels in a different medium — on water. The Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 is a new limited-edition motor yacht resulting from a collaboration between Automobili Lamborghini and The Italian Sea Group. Inspiration for Lamborghini’s unique motor yacht comes from the automaker’s Sian FKP 37 — the first electrified Lamborghini and the most powerful car ever produced by company. Although the Sian may be the most powerful Lamborghini on the road, it’s mere 819 horsepower pales next to this Lamborghini-inspired motor yacht. The Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 boasts two MAN V12 engines, with each producing 2000 horsepower — yes, we said each. With this much power on tap, this most seaworthy Lamborghini will reach 60 knots, making it the fastest offering in the Tecnomar fleet as well.

2021 Lucid Motors Air
In the past few years, several new companies have popped up spouting promises to create powerfully efficient electric vehicles, and most have done nothing more than reveal a few prototypes. The exception to this rule seems to be Lucid Motors. The California-based company introduces its first production model, the Lucid Motors Air. With impressive performance and range, this fully electric high-performance luxury sedan will start production soon and compete directly with the products of another American luxury EV company — Tesla Motors. Engineers at Lucid Motors developed the Air’s electric drivetrain in-house, and it boasts some impressive stats. The ultra-efficient permanent magnet electric motor is integrated with an inverter, transmission and differential to create a 900V+ drive unit that weighs a mere 161 pounds. Each drive unit generates up to 670 horsepower and almost 3,000 lb-ft of torque. Given their compact size, up to three units could be employed to power the Air.

When the Lucid Air arrives, it will be available with up to 1080 horsepower in a dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration. Acceleration to 60 mph takes 2.5 seconds. Lucid Motors says the new Air has the capability to eclipse a quarter mile in less than 10 seconds at a speed of 144 mph — fast, especially for a 5-passenger sedan. Driving range is expected to be as high as 517 miles, depending on the vehicle’s configuration. The time it takes to fully charge an electric vehicle is almost as important as its range, and Lucid says the Air has this covered. Using what the company calls its “Wunderbox” — an onboard charging unit designed to be compatible and maximize a range of charging systems — the Air can charge at a rate of 20 miles in one minute or 300 miles in 20 minutes when plugged into a DC fast charger.

2021 McLaren 765LT
McLaren builds some of the most impressive supercars on the road; however, certain models within the British marque’s lineup stand above — or stretch past — others in terms of performance and exclusivity. These are the Longtails, and earlier this year McLaren revealed the newest longtail — the 2021 McLaren 765LT. The all-new 765LT is the latest in a vehicle series that started in the 1990s with the McLaren F1 GTR — a lineage of street-legal machines that most recently included the 600LT. The 2021 McLaren 765LT is the most potent Longtail ever. Lower, wider and longer than the 720S, the 765LT possesses a much more aggressive stance. The front splitter, new front bumper, front floor, side skirts, rear bumper, rear wing and lengthened rear diffuser are all constructed of carbon fiber.

Powering the new 765LT is a McLaren 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine producing a plentiful 755 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. Power gets sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed Sequential Shift gearbox. Performance numbers are stunning: 60 mph goes by in 2.7 seconds and in 7.2 seconds the 765LT is already at 124 mph. Maximum speed lists at 205 mph. Chassis enhancements include bespoke LT springs and damper, increased front track width, a lower front ride height as well as software updates for the linked-hydraulic Proactive Chassis Control II suspension. A particular appreciation of any McLaren is the wonderful sound generated by its turbocharged engine. This aspect of a 2021 McLaren 765LT live performance gets enhanced by quad outlets of its titanium exhaust system.

For the new year, these high-performance luxury vehicles get updated styling, interior upgrades and improved creature comforts. The E-Class continues as the midsize luxury sedan and wagon offerings from Mercedes-Benz, and the AMG versions reside at the head of the class with the highest level of amenities combined with extreme performance. Primary changes for the 2021 Mercedes-AMG E 63 S occur at the front end. The distinctive AMG grille features vertical slats and a larger star logo in the center. The opening is larger than previously, which provides better cooling for the big V8 engine. The all-LED multibeam headlights have an updated, flatter style flanking the new grille. More aggressive wheel arches and twin power domes in the hood give the cars a more aggressive demeanor. At the heart of these AMG variants is a handcrafted AMG 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine that produces 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, teamed with an AMG Speedshift 9-speed automatic transmission. The acceleration stats of the 2021 Mercedes-AMG E 63 S are impressive — the sedan sprints from zero to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds; the wagon performs the same feat in 3.4 seconds. The S-Class resides at the top of the Mercedes-Benz lineup and the new Mercedes-Maybach S 580 4MATIC is the pinnacle of that elite line, offering distinctive design elements, exclusive features and the finest luxury appointments. The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class adds exclusive Maybach design cues including a grille with Maybach lettering and vertical three-dimensional trim strips; a chrome trim strip in the center of the hood; and a unique front bumper design with black mesh or optional chrome mesh. Riding on a wheelbase 7 inches longer than the standard S-Class, the Maybach S-Class has longer rear doors, a more upright C-pillar and an illuminated Maybach emblems on those pillars.

The Mercedes-Benz Metris van has plenty of commercial applications, but now the German automaker has injected some fun into this utility vehicle with the Weekender Package. The Weekender is as easy to drive as an everyday vehicle, with the option of heading off grid for a night or two — or twenty-two. The Weekender offers seating for five or sleeping for four. The interior easily transforms into a comfortable living space with plenty of flexibility. A rear bench seat slides forward or back, providing more cargo space or comfort space. A stowable table can be attached in a variety of locations, and it can even swivel for use outside the sliding side door. Both the driver’s and front passenger’s bucket seats swivel 180 degrees to face rearward, creating a comfortable arrangement around the table.

2021 Mercedes-Benz Metris Weekender
To properly convert the Weekender into a camper, the roof and its integrated spring system easily pops open on gas struts. Initially this provides plenty of headroom for even the tallest campers to stand upright; however, when it comes time to sleep, a bed can be pulled down to create cozy sleeping quarters in the pop-up. The bed in the top level sleeps two on a memory-foam mattress, and with the raised roof and large windows it feels quite spacious. The Weekender has several USB ports in the upper bunk space that can be used for lights or charging mobile devices. For additional sleeping space, the rear bench seat can be easily folded into a large bed, providing sleeping arrangements for two more occupants. The Mercedes-Benz Metris Weekender comes with an extra battery to provide power for lights or whatever else folks might need while overnighting. For additional power, Mercedes offers the Weekender with integrated solar panels.

2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class
Mercedes-Benz introduces its next-generation flagship S-Class sedan for the 2021 model year with a new exterior design, upgraded interior luxury and innovative new technologies including the second-generation Mercedes-Benz User Experience infotainment system. The latest iteration of Mercedes-Benz design language as applied to the new S-Class can be called evolutionary with subtle but important updates, featuring a longer hood, reshaped grille and wider headlights. The new S-Class is longer than its predecessor and also sports a longer wheelbase and wider track. Two new engines with EQ Boost will be introduced with the new S-Class, as well as a new level of standard Intelligent Drive, more advanced driver-assist systems and advanced LED technology for interactive ambient lighting.

2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class
The focal point of the all-new interior design of the 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is a 12.8-inch OLED center touchscreen for the MBUX infotainment and navigation system. The unit extends up from the center console in front of the dash — a departure from the previous model that had the digital instrument cluster and MBUX screen positioned as a single wide screen under a single hood. The S-Class features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a new steering wheel with capacitive touch control buttons. Active Multicontour seats are trimmed in leather, featuring rapid heating, ventilation and massage functions. Standard equipment also includes a panorama sunroof; soft-close doors; an air balance package with ionization and active fragrance; power rear sun blinds; a 360-degree surround-view camera with new 3-D view assist; 64-color active ambient lighting; and a Burmester 3D surround sound system with sound personalization.

2022 Nissan Ariya
When it introduced the LEAF to the U.S. market in 2010, Nissan became one of the first car companies to deliver a mainstream production electric car to the masses. Ten years on, the Japan-based automaker introduces its second electric model — the Ariya. A compact crossover EV with seating for five, the Nissan Ariya will achieve a range of around 300 miles and be available with all-wheel drive. Obvious elements of Nissan design are visible in the new Ariya; however, this new vehicle takes things a giant step further, both for the brand and for what is likely a unique look for future Nissan electric vehicles. The signature V-Motion grille remains a fixture up front; however, Ariya possesses a broader overall stance, incorporating narrow LED headlights and running lights.

2022 Nissan Ariya
The Ariya is built on an all-new EV platform and will be available with either a 63 kWh battery or a longer range 87 kWh battery. With either option, the battery pack is positioned under the center of the vehicle, which allows the flat interior floor as well as lowers the center of gravity for better handling. The standard Ariya will feature front-wheel drive; Nissan will also offer the Ariya with dual motors, which will provide increased performance as well as the added grip of Nissan’s advanced all-wheel-control system called e-4ORCE. The single-motor Ariya will deliver 215 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque, while dual-motor variants will bump output to almost 390 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque, which should provide quick acceleration. The new Nissan Ariya will go on sale in Japan in the middle of 2021, with the new EV coming to America later in 2021.

2021 Nissan Rogue
Rogue has been Nissan’s best-selling vehicle for a long time, so the debut of the next-generation 2021 model is arguably the most important new rollout for the automaker. Built on a new platform with fresh styling, advanced safety features and a family friendly interior, the 2021 Nissan Rogue will likely continue as one of the most popular SUVs in America. The 2021 Nissan Rogue features a more classic SUV design with a bold vertical grille, strong fender flares and a squared-off tailgate. Although somewhat of a departure from the current design, the Rogue features the familiar Nissan V-Motion grille — a styling element found throughout most of the Nissan lineup. Unique multi-level LED headlights give the Rogue its own look. The new Rogue is 1.5 inches shorter and slightly lower than its predecessor; not only does this give the new crossover a stockier, stronger stance, it should improve overall drivability and maneuverability.

2021 Nissan Rogue
The 2021 Nissan Rogue will be available in four trim levels: S, SV, SL and — new for 2021 — Platinum. Nissan delivers a long list of standard equipment for Rogue across the board, including LED headlights and taillights, alloy wheels and Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto connectivity. Nissan Zero Gravity seats are standard, and seats can be heated. Leather seat trim is standard on the SL, and upgraded to semi-aniline leather seats in the Platinum trim. Access to the rear seat has been improved for 2021, with rear doors that open to nearly 90 degrees — much wider than the previous generation. Rear seats also use Nissan’s Zero Gravity seats that recline and offer available seat heating. Powering the 2021 Nissan Rogue is a 2.5-liter direct-injection 4-cylinder engine that produces 181 horsepower.

Nissan Z Proto
Nissan builds a wide range of sedans, crossovers and trucks, but the most noteworthy model in the lineup is the legendary Z car. In its current iteration as the 370Z, this iconic sports car celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, and what better way to celebrate the past than by providing a glimpse into the future? The Z Proto is instantly recognizable as a Z car thanks to its long hood and roofline that flows smoothly from the top of the windshield to the squared-off rear end — much like the silhouette of the first-generation Z. Up front, the squared-off grille of the Z Proto mimics the current 370Z, while teardrop-shaped LED headlights look much like those on the original 240Z. Stylish 19-inch alloy wheels add to the overall look. A bright yellow paint scheme is also a tribute to the past; a popular color on the first-generation 240Z.

Nissan Z Proto
A thoroughly modern vehicle, the Z Proto puts a 12.3-inch digital display in front of the driver, making all vital information available at a glance. The bright yellow color continues inside as accenting throughout the cabin, including stitching on the instrument panel and piping on the seats. Although exact details about the Z Proto’s powertrain have not been released, it will boast an enhanced twin-turbo V6 engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Given that the most powerful version of the current Z car produces 350 horsepower, expect the new model to have at least that much.

Two years ago at the Geneva International Motor Show, Volvo premiered Polestar as a separate brand of electrified vehicle, launching with the innovative Polestar 1. Since that time, the electric performance brand introduced the Polestar 2 sedan and hinted at an upcoming Polestar 3 SUV. To showcase what consumers can expect from this luxury electric carmaker in the future, the brand introduced the Polestar Precept concept earlier this year and has since announced that this futuristic model will definitely go into production. The Polestar Precept concept fully electric 4-door grand tourer sports a low, sleek silhouette further emphasized by its 120-inch wheelbase. With fastback styling, the Precept’s glass roof stretches from the top of the windshield to the rear decklid. The long vehicle provides space for a large battery pack as well as an expansive rear seat.

Polestar Precept
In keeping with Polestar’s sustainability goals, the interior of the Precept uses new materials designed to lower the vehicle’s environmental impact. Interior panels and seatbacks are created from flax-based composites, which not only provide up to 80 percent reduction in plastic waste, they also offer a 50 percent weight savings over more common materials. Instead of using leather for seat surfaces, the Precept’s seats are a 3-D-knitted material from recycled PET bottles, while the bolsters and head restraints are made from recycled cork vinyl. The carpeting is created from reclaimed fishing nets.

2021 Porsche 911 Turbo
Almost 50 years ago Porsche introduced the first 911 Turbo to North America, and it remains one of the most recognizable names and vehicles of the sports car world. Recently Porsche removed the wraps from the latest generation of the Porsche 911 Turbo. Available as a coupe or convertible, the 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo takes giant leaps forward in both power and performance. When Porsche’s first 911 Turbo came to market in the mid-1970s, its 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine with a single turbocharger produced about 260 horsepower. Although this might not seem powerful in a world where Toyota Camrys now have 300 horsepower, at the time the first 911 Turbo was one of the most powerful sports cars in America. The performance car world has changed considerably since then, and this latest 911 Turbo boasts more than twice the power of the original.

The new Porsche 911 Turbo sports a 3.8-liter 6-cylinder boxer engine with two symmetrical VTG turbochargers to produce 572 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque — an increase of 32 horses and 67 lb-ft of torque over the outgoing 911 Turbo. The rear-mounted engine gets teamed with an 8-speed PDK transmission specifically calibrated to the powerful engine. This new 911 Turbo is very quick off the line; the coupe sprints to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds with a top speed listed as 198 mph. The updated active all-wheel-drive system can send more power to the front wheels than previous 911 Turbos, providing additional traction and improved performance in wet or dry conditions.

2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S
For those who feel the new 911 Turbo doesn’t have enough power, behold the 911 Turbo S. The range-topping 911 has continued to evolve over time, and the all-new 2021 Turbo S arrives boasting more power and performance than ever before. Available as a coupe or as a cabriolet, the new car is wider than the previous generation by about 1.8 inches up front. Optimized aerodynamics improve performance and efficiency, featuring adaptive cooling air flaps at the front as well as wider air intakes. A redesigned extendable front spoiler as well as a larger rear wing provide 15 percent more downforce than the previous 911 Turbo. For the first time the 911 Turbo S utilizes staggered wheels — the front end sports 20-inch wheels with 255/35 tires, while at the rear are 21-inch wheels shod with 315/30 tires. Wheels feature a center-lock design and Pirelli P Zero tires.

2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S
The 911 Turbo S gets a new 3.8-liter boxer engine with two variable turbine geometry turbochargers that help the unit produce 640 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. This represents a bump of 60 horses versus the previous generation. The engine gets teamed with a turbo-specific 8-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox. Performance numbers tell the tale: the sprint to 60 mph takes a mere 2.6 seconds and 124 mph comes up in 8.9 seconds — a full second faster than its predecessor. The new 911 Turbo S can pass a quarter mile in 10.5 seconds, and with enough road or track speed tops out at 205 mph. Of course a Porsche is about more than simply straight-line acceleration, so the new 911 Turbo S provides excellent handling. With the enhanced Porsche Traction Management all-wheel-drive system, more torque — up to 368 lb-ft — can be sent to the front wheels to aid acceleration and cornering.

2021 Porsche Panamera
Porsche introduced the second-generation Panamera a few years ago, so for 2021 the high-performance four door is receiving a styling refresh as well as extensive upgrades under the skin. Panamera has been in the Porsche lineup since 2009 and is now available in sedan, Sport Turismo and Executive body styles with a range of turbocharged and electrified powertrains. Earlier this summer a lightly camouflaged 2021 Porsche Panamera took to the legendary Nurburgring Nordschleife racetrack in Germany and proceeded to circumnavigate the full 20.832 kilometers in 7:29.81, making it the fastest production car in the Executive Car category. Executive Car is a European classification for E-segment vehicles, or those vehicles classified in America as large cars.

2021 Porsche Panamera
Styling changes for the 2021 Porsche Panamera are rather subtle. Most noticeable is a standard SportDesign front fascia that had previously been optional. At the rear, a continuous LED light strip spans the space above the PORSCHE badge and connects the narrow taillights. New diffuser fins are added to the lower rear fascia. The Panamera will come with a new 20-inch wheel design as standard equipment, along with two new 21-inch wheel designs as optional goodies. A new Turbo S E-Hybrid resides at the top of the 2021 Panamera lineup, sportting an upgraded 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine producing 563 horsepower teamed with a 134-horsepower electric motor for a total output of 689 horsepower and 642 lb-ft of torque. Prodigious power makes this top-level Panamera the second-most-potent car in the automaker’s current line behind the fully electric Taycan Turbo S.

2021 Ram 1500 TRX
Dodge has formed a HEMI-sized habit injecting monstrous Hellcat supercharged V8 engines into a range of performance vehicles. Now the company drops the powerful V8 into a Ram 1500 pickup truck to create an off-road monster — the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX. Built for high-performance off-road driving, the new TRX becomes the quickest, fastest and most powerful mass-produced truck in the world. Even if there were no badge on the tailgate, it’s clear that TRX is no ordinary Ram 1500. Standing a full 8 inches wider than the standard Ram 1500, the supertruck features large composite wheel flares that help cover the 6-inch increase in track (the distance between the wheels on each axle). Riding high on Goodyear Wrangler Territory 325/65R18 All-Terrain 35-inch tires, the TRX also sports a unique hood, skidplates, steel bumpers and a front grille adorned with a larger RAM badge.

2021 Ram 1500 TRX
Beneath the bulging hood of the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX lurks a Hellcat 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V8 engine producing a massive 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. Specs and stats associated with pickups are all about towing and hauling; the Ram 1500 TRX is no slouch with the ability to tow up to 8,100 pounds or haul 1,310 pounds. And this Hellcat of pickups hauls in more ways than one, sprinting to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and reaching 100 mph in 10.5 seconds. The TRX features an all-new suspension system with active damping that allows more than 13 inches of wheel travel at each corner. 2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost
Rolls-Royce has been the benchmark for luxury automobiles for a long time, and this still holds true for the all-new 2021 Ghost. The Ghost moves into its second generation this year as the most technologically advanced car ever from the luxury marque, boasting all-wheel drive, all-wheel steering and a new suspension system. Still easily recognizable as a Rolls, the new Ghost features a larger Pantheon grille with accent lighting, as well as an illuminated dashboard that displays starlight to match the Starlight Headliner.

2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost
The 2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost is powered by a 6.75-liter twin-turbo V12 engine producing 563 horsepower and 627-lb-ft of torque at 1600 rpm, delivered to all four wheels through a transmission that uses satellite data to shift to the correct gear for upcoming corners or terrain. Inside, the Ghost features an Illuminated fascia located on the passenger side of the dashboard as an extension of the Starlight Headliner. The Illuminated fascia is not simply a screen, but a complex system of 152 LEDs mounted above and beneath the fascia, employing a light guide with 90,000 laser-etched dots on the surface to disperse the LED light while also creating a twinkling effect.

2022 Subaru BRZ
Subaru recently revealed an all-new BRZ, following the proven formula of the original with low weight, a low center of gravity, precise steering and excellent handling — all in a fun-to-drive, affordable 2+2 package. The 2022 BRZ is more than an inch longer and almost half an inch wider than its predecessor, and a new front end emphasizes the width with a low grille and wide frontal area with functional air intakes at each edge. The front fenders include side vents that reduce drag by extracting air from beneath the hood and fenders, and that air gets directed to side sills that creates downforce at speed.

2022 Subaru BRZ
The rear-wheel-drive 2022 BRZ receives a new 2.4-liter 4-cylinder boxer engine that redlines at 7000 rpm and produces 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque — an increase of 23 horsepower and 33 lb-ft of torque over the outgoing model. The new engine gets paired with a 6-speed manual transmission or optional 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters and a new Sport mode. The chassis of the 2022 BRZ is 50 percent more rigid than the previous model, and the center of gravity is actually lower as well with a near perfect front-to-rear weight distribution. The driver chooses from five settings for the standard vehicle stability control, and the new system allows more input — the VSC can even be turned off completely, putting the driver in full control. The 2022 Subaru BRZ will be produced at Subaru’s Gunma, Japan, assembly plant and is scheduled to go on sale in early fall 2021.

2021 Subaru Crosstrek
A few years ago Subaru introduced an all-new 2018 Crosstrek that adopted the Japan-based automaker’s new global platform and introduced a new look for the small crossover. For the 2021 model year, Crosstrek gets a refresh including updated styling, new features, improved safety and a more powerful engine — but that’s not all. The big Crosstrek news for 2021 is the introduction of the Sport trim level. Designed with more aggressive styling, the Sport has unique wheel arch moldings, 17-inch alloy wheels with a dark gray finish and a gunmetal gray treatment for the grille, side mirrors and badges. Inside, the Sport continues to differentiate itself from the rest of the lineup with seats covered in StarTex, a lightweight urethane material made without PVC, phthalate or chlorine. Seats get trimmed with yellow stitching.

2021 Subaru Crosstrek
Subaru increases the available power in the 2021 Crosstrek — both the Limited and new Sport are powered by a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that generates 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque — the same engine introduced last year in the new Forester. Power gets delivered to all four wheels via the standard Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission. Subaru’s award-winning EyeSight system is now standard on all Crosstrek variants when equipped with the Lineartronic CVT. EyeSight also includes automatic pre-collision braking, lane-keeping assist, lane departure and sway warning, lead-vehicle start alert and a rear-seat reminder. The Crosstrek has been an IIHS Top Safety Pick + since 2015 and will likely be on the list for 2021.

2021 Toyota Sienna
Toyota has played a big part in making hybrid vehicles mainstream, and for 2021 the company introduces its first hybrid minivan: the all-new 2021 Toyota Sienna. With fresh styling, an all-new chassis and a range of new features, this new fourth-generation Sienna will be available exclusively with a hybrid powertrain. The Sienna makes use of the Toyota Hybrid System II that teams a high-efficiency 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with two electric motors for a total output of 243 horsepower. This is not a plug-in hybrid system, so pure EV mode will only be available for short distances at low speeds. Toyota estimates 33 mpg combined for this new hybrid minivan. The Sienna will be able to tow up to 3,500 pounds.

2021 Toyota Sienna
The new Sienna gets a sleeker look (if that’s possible in a minivan) with narrow headlights integrated along the upper grille and then wrapping around the front corners of the vehicle, giving the appearance of motion. According to Toyota, the front-end design is inspired by Shinkansen bullet trains in Japan. Lines along the side and rear of the new Sienna are much more sculpted than in previous models, giving the new minivan much more character. Inside, Sienna designers created a “Bridge Console” between the two front seats, providing a great space for storage and device charging. With all covers closed the design is exceptionally clean, but the space features a large storage bin, multiple cupholders and a large space below the bridge to stow a purse, bag or other items that need to remain within reach.

2021 Toyota Venza
Toyota continues the electrification of its lineup with the all-new 2021 Venza. If the name seems familiar, that’s understandable — Toyota offered a crossover with this name until production ended in 2015. The new Venza 5-passenger crossover is built on the Toyota New Global Architecture platform, and it looks leaps and bounds ahead of its predecessor with a stylish new exterior, the latest safety features and both a hybrid powertrain and all-wheel drive as standard equipment. The Venza introduces a new front-end look to the Toyota lineup with unique styling cues that feature sleek integrated headlights that flow into the sculpted hood. Blue Toyota badges telegraph that Venza is now a hybrid.

2021 Toyota Venza
Fully embracing electrification, Toyota’s new Venza will be powered exclusively by a new-generation Toyota Hybrid System that teams a high-efficiency 2.5-liter gas engine with three electric motors. Total output is rated at 219 horsepower and Toyota estimates the Venza should achieve up to 40 mpg combined. The driver can choose from three driving modes: Normal, Eco and Sport. There is also an EV mode that allows electric-only driving over short distances. The new Venza has an electronic on-demand all-wheel-drive system as standard equipment. It uses a separate rear-mounted electric motor rather than the more common transfer case and driveshaft. As much as 80 percent of Venza’s power can be directed to the rear wheels as needed.

2022 Volkswagen Golf R
In early November Volkswagen took the wraps off the all-new Golf R, and this hot hatch gets even toastier. With a boost to 315 horsepower and a high-tech all-wheel-drive system, the Golf R becomes the performance pinnacle of the Golf lineup. The 2022 Volkswagen Golf R will be the eighth generation, and it takes a major step up from the previous version in style, features and — most importantly — performance. The 2022 Volkswagen Golf R gets a new front bumper with larger R-Specific air intakes and high-gloss black trim. As with previous generations, the R Logo will be present in the grille, and mirror caps will be matte chrome. At the rear, the Golf R has a new bumper and dynamic diffuser with a stylish, functional two-piece rear spoiler. Quad chrome-plated outlets of the sport exhaust system complete the high-performance appearance.

2022 Volkswagen Golf R
A 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing 315 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque powers the new Golf R, representing a 27-horsepower bump over the previous generation making this Golf R the most powerful one VW has ever offered. Peak torque is available from 2100 rpm for excellent response. The hot hatch’s 6-speed manual gearbox will still be available on the 2022 model. For drivers who prefer two pedals, Volkswagen will also offer a quick-shifting 7-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission. The German automaker expects the new Golf R will reach 62 mph in 4.7 seconds with the DSG — no word yet on manual transmission acceleration times, but they will likely be slightly slower. The 2022 Volkswagen Golf R will be available exclusively as a 5-door hatchback and it should arrive in late 2021.

2021 Volkswagen ID.4
With the launch of the 2021 ID.4, Volkswagen joins the growing list of automakers bringing long-range electric vehicles to the U.S. market. Although the German carmaker has offered electric vehicles before, none have had the range and capability of this new model. A small crossover SUV that fits conveniently into VW’s U.S. lineup, the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 provides utility and performance in a modern yet familiar package. The new ID.4 will be built on Volkswagen’s new modular electric drive architecture, designed for use in multiple VW vehicles. And though the ID.4 rides on the most advanced VW electric platform to date, the small crossover still has ties to the past. The ID.4 platform has its electric motor mounted at the rear — the same location as the original rear-engine people’s car, the Beetle.

2021 Volkswagen ID.4
The ID.4 will initially come to market with a rear-mounted AC permanent-magnet synchronous motor producing 201 horsepower and 228 lb-ft of torque. Next year Volkswagen plans to launch the ID.4 AWD, which will have two electric motors generating 302 horsepower. Power for the ID.4 comes from an 82 kWh battery pack comprised of 288 pouch cells in 12 modules. The pack gets housed in a lightweight aluminum structure bolted to the frame for better rigidity and a lower center of gravity, both of which should improve overall drivability. Volkswagen estimates the driving range to be about 250 miles on a single charge. About 5 inches shorter and 2 inches lower than the Volkswagen Tiguan, the ID.4 is the smallest crossover in the VW lineup. However, with no internal combustion engine or driveline to take up space, the interior of the ID.4 is similar in size to the larger Tiguan.

2022 Volkswagen Taos
Volkswagen doubles down with a second entry in the compact SUV segment, adding the all-new 2022 Taos alongside the current Tiguan. The 5-seat Taos lands right in the middle of the compact SUV segment, slotting in below the three-row Tiguan — one of the larger vehicles in the category. The new Taos design shares elements with other Volkswagen SUVs, starting with a bold grille, sculpted hood and LED light signature similar to the Atlas Cross Sport. The top trim levels feature an illuminated light line from the VW logo in the center of the grille to the headlights — a design element first seen on the recently revealed ID.4 electric SUV.

2022 Volkswagen Taos
Taos draws power from a 1.5-liter version of the turbocharged 4-cylinder engine currently offered in the VW Jetta, producing 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. The 2022 Volkswagen Taos will be available with both front-wheel drive or 4Motion all-wheel drive. When equipped with front-wheel drive, power gets delivered to the front axle through an 8-speed automatic transmission. With 4Motion all-wheel drive, the 1.5-liter engine gets combined with a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission. Scheduled to go on sale in America in summer 2021, the 2022 VW Taos will be offered in three trim levels: S, SE and SEL.

2022 Volkswagen Tiguan
Volkswagen introduced the Tiguan more than 10 ten years ago when it entered the smaller crossover market for the first time. When the second generation Tiguan arrived in 2016, the small VW grew in popularity to eventually become the best-selling model in Volkswagen’s U.S. lineup. Now the German company has announced plans to introduce the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan with fresh styling, new technology and advanced driver-assistance features. Note that photos are of the Euro-spec short-wheelbase Tiguan; the version in America will be the long-wheelbase variant. The most obvious update for the 2022 Tiguan is a new look to the small crossover’s front fascia. An all-new grille flows cleanly into updated LED headlights, creating a visage similar to Tiguan’s larger siblings in the VW lineup. And in keeping with the update recently introduced on Volkswagen’s Arteon flagship sedan, the TIGUAN nameplate lettering gets centrally located on the rear of the crossover below the large VW badge.

2022 Volkswagen Tiguan
Inside, the new Tiguan gets a more high-tech feel with the latest Volkswagen infotainment system that uses natural voice control and can be paired to multiple phones simultaneously. An 8-inch display is standard, while the upper trim levels are equipped with a new 10.25-inch touchscreen display. Adding to the ambiance is an available 15-color ambient lighting system as well as a 480-watt Fender premium audio system. All 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan variants will be equipped with VW’s Digital Cockpit, which provides a configurable electronic display in full view of the driver. Volkswagen will offer the 2022 Tiguan with VW’s latest driver-assistance system called Travel Assist. This advanced feature employs the adaptive cruise control and lane-change assist to enable a partially automated driving system that works at speeds up to 130 mph.
