Electrifying Show Car Debuts
Cadillac recently made its electrification intentions clear with the introduction of the LYRIQ electric crossover. Now GM’s luxury brand goes further to provide a glimpse at a future elegant electric flagship sedan called CELESTIQ. The CELESTIQ show car debuted today and will act as a bellwether for the Cadillac design and engineering teams as they continue to iterate on the vehicle, with the goal of developing CELESTIQ into the most advanced vehicle ever from the luxury brand.

Pure Cadillac
“The CELESTIQ show car is the purest expression of Cadillac,” said Magalie Debellis, manager of Cadillac Advanced Design. “It brings to life the most integrated expressions of design and innovation in the brand’s history, coalescing in a defining statement of a true Cadillac flagship,” Debellis exclaimed.

Looking Back
Design and engineering teams mined Cadillac’s rich history of amazing automobiles when creating the CELESTIQ. Vehicles such as the prewar V16-powered bespoke coaches and the 1957 Eldorado Brougham heavily influenced the development of CELESTIQ. “Those vehicles represented the pinnacle of luxury in their respective eras, and helped make Cadillac the standard of the world,” said Tony Roma, chief engineer. “The CELESTIQ show car — also a sedan, because the configuration offers the very best luxury experience — builds on that pedigree and captures the spirt of arrival they expressed,” Roma noted.

Sleek Looks
Cadillac calls the CELESTIQ a sedan; however, the body style is akin to a sportback with a long, sweeping roofline that flows from the top of the windshield to the very end of the car. Up front, styling is similar to the LYRIQ, indicating that we should expect to see this look on forthcoming electric Cadillacs.

Unique Taillights
Taillights wrap around the rear corners and extend all the way to the C-pillar, which further emphasizes the CELESTIQ’s formidable rear flanks.

Futuristic Interior
Both luxurious and technologically advanced, the CELESTIQ’s interior is captivated by a 55-inch diagonal advanced LED display spanning the dashboard. The system also includes a passenger display with digital blinds that allow the right-seat occupant to view video without distracting the driver. CELESTIQ will also be fitted with Ultra Cruise, which is the next step in GM’s move toward autonomous driving.

Rear-Seat Entertainment
In addition to the large main display, CELESTIQ also has three screens for rear-area passengers. Each seating position gets its own integrated display, and a center screen enables interaction with climate control and other systems.

Smart Glass
One of the most advanced features of the CELESTIQ show car is its Smart Glass Roof. The roof uses Suspended Particle Device technology to create up to four zones that can be adjusted to allow different levels of light through the roof. This lets each passenger personalize their own space.

Eventual Production
Although we expect many of the design cues and innovative features in CELESTIQ to eventually reach production, the vehicle is still in development, so availability and production plans will be announced at a later date. CELESTIQ will be built at GM’s Global Technical Center — the first production vehicle produced there since the center’s inauguration in 1956.
