BMW’s midsize sport sedan, the 5 Series has been successful in the highly competitive sport sedan market for dozens of years, but it took nearly a 20 percent hit in sales for the first quarter of 2016. The current sixth-generation design debuted for 2011 and a new model is due next year. The current lineup includes the 528i, 535i, 535d, 535i Gran Turismo, ActiveHybrid 5 and the 550i, with engines ranging from the 528i with a 240-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder to the 550i with a 445-horsepower twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8. All versions are rear-wheel drive, with xDrive all-wheel drive available for all trim levels except the ActiveHybrid 5.
