The Ram ProMaster City arrived about ten years ago, offering commercial customers a small van for cargo and passenger duty. That European-based model was discontinued in 2022, but it returns in 2027 as a larger model that should fill a void in the commercial market. The new ProMaster City will join the full-size ProMaster van when it arrives early next year.

“When the new ProMaster City arrives at dealerships early next year, it will be the only mid-size commercial van on sale in the U.S.,” said Tim Kuniskis, head of North American Brands, SRT Performance Division, Retail Marketing. “Despite our unique market position, Ram Professional isn’t coasting; we’re raising the competitive bar and delivering on small business expectations.”

Ram will offer the ProMaster City in two trim levels: Tradesman and SLT. Both trim levels will be available in cargo or passenger configuration, with the latter offering seating for five or eight passengers. Only one size will be offered at launch, but there are customization options to meet specific customer needs, including a range of window and solid-panel combinations.

The new ProMaster City boasts considerably more cargo space than its predecessor while maintaining a manageable footprint. Measuring 210.1 inches long and 75.6 inches wide, the ProMaster City is about six inches longer than a Chrysler Pacifica. While it’s not small, the ProMaster City should be easy to maneuver with a 42-foot turning radius, and with an overall height under seven feet, it will fit in most standard garages or parking structures.

It may not be that much bigger than a Pacifica, but with its square design, the ProMaster City boasts 167 cubic feet of cargo area. The load floor is more than 9 feet long, with more than 48 inches between the rear wheel wells and 64 inches in width overall, making it easy to handle full 4×8 sheets of plywood or two standard U.S. pallets. The ProMaster City is expected to have a payload rating above 2,000 pounds and should be able to tow 2,000 pounds.

All ProMaster City models come standard with a passenger-side sliding door that presents an opening 48 inches tall and 36 inches wide. At the rear, the van features two doors that can swing open up to 180 degrees, providing space for a forklift or backing up to a loading dock. Alternatively, customers can opt for the rear liftgate, which not only provides quick access to the cargo area but also creates a sizable cover for loading or unloading in inclement weather.

Ram will also offer a passenger version of the ProMaster City with seating for five or eight passengers. Both rows of seats are removable for added versatility.
