It was just a few years ago that Ram Trucks introduced the extreme Ram 1500 TRX. Boasting more than 700 horsepower combined with extreme off-road capabilities, this monster of a truck was designed to go head-to-head with Ford’s F-150 Raptor. But last year, we saw the end of the HEMI V8, and with it, the TRX was discontinued. However, with new leadership at parent company Stellantis, the legendary HEMI is back, and along with it, the most powerful TRX ever and the return of the vaunted Street and Racing Technology (SRT).

“Our first moves were clear: revive the legendary HEMI V-8 and reignite the SRT Performance Division. So, would anyone really bet against TRX making a comeback?” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of American Brands, SRT Performance, NA Marketing and Retail Strategy, Stellantis. “But bringing back the nameplate isn’t enough. Ram set the bar five years ago with 702 horsepower, and that benchmark has been challenged. SRT doesn’t limbo; we high-jump – and 721 wasn’t going to cut it. 777 horsepower? That’s the mark. And it represents more than power – it signals an awakening and a new path forward.”

When Ram first announced that the TRX would have 702 horsepower, it seemed insane. But Ford jumped in with the 720-horsepower F-150 Raptor R, and now Ram Trucks is firing back. The 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX features a 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V8 that puts out a massive 777 horsepower and 680 lb-ft of torque. An 8-speed automatic transmission is standard, and with the grip of automatic four-wheel drive, the big truck can reach 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds.

In a world where electric (and non-electric) vehicles are creating imitation exhaust and engine sounds, the Ram SRT TRX brings the appropriate true soundtrack. The sport-tuned exhaust, with an X crossover pipe and stainless-steel construction, should produce an evil V8 roar through dual 5-inch exhaust outlets.

While its quick on-road acceleration is impressive for a non-electric pickup truck, the Ram TRX boats 11.8-inches of ground clearance and the gear to deliver extreme off-road performance. Standard equipment includes a BorgWarner 48-13 full-time active transfer case, Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive performance shocks, first used on the Ram 1500 RHO, active performance damping, 13/14 inches of front/rear suspension travel, a Dana 60 rear axle, a rear electronic locking differential, and 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires.

The 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX should be easy to spot, standing out from the rest of the brand’s truck lineup. The new TRX is six inches wider than the Ram 1500 Rebel, thanks to its bold composite fender flares that frame the 18-inch Satin Black wheels and big off-road tires. Blacked out bi-functional projector LED headlights flank the black grille adorned with R-A-M spelled out in large, Flame Red letters. Flame Red tow hooks highlight the steel front bumper, which integrates with the forward skid plate. LED clearance lights sit inside the functional hood scoop for a distinct look at night.

At the rear, darkened LED taillamps feature the integrated blind spot monitoring system. The tailgate features a large RAM across the center, with SRT and TRX badges, complete with a T-Rex image. Flame Red tow hooks and the Gloss Black exhaust tips complete the look.

For those who don’t think the standard TRX is bold enough, Ram is offering a special Bloodshot Night Edition with even more aggressive styling. This special truck is painted in Diamond Black Crystal Pearl Coat with Flame Red striping and accents. The unique bodyside graphic integrates with the TRX logo.

The Bloodshot Night edition also features carbon fiber interior trim with a woven pattern that integrates red anodized thread for a unique look. A glass-encased TRX badge on the center console adds to the overall look.

It may be ready to tackle the most challenging terrain, but inside, the TRX coddles its passengers with stylish front seats trimmed in Natura Plus leather with perforated suede inserts and red accents on the bolsters. Front seats offer massage functions, while both front and rear seats get heating and ventilation. Continuing the red theme, the TRX logo is embroidered on the front seatbacks, which complement the Ruby Red seatbelts. Carbon fiber trim is found throughout the cabin, along with a full suede headliner and aluminum paddle shifters.

All Ram TRX variants feature a 14.5-inch vertical touchscreen display with the intuitive Uconnect 5 infotainment system. Dual wireless phone chargers are in the center console, and the truck comes standard with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A configurable 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and 10-inch head-up display add the high-tech vibe. A full suite of advanced driver-assist features comes standard, including Active Driving Assist, which offers hands-free driving on approved limited-access highways.
