First Electric GMC Sierra
General Motors continues pushing forward into electric vehicle frontiers with today’s introduction of the all-new GMC Sierra EV. The 2024 Sierra EV joins the Hummer EV in the GMC lineup, adding battery-electric power to the already high levels of comfort, capability, and performance of this popular pickup truck. The 2024 GMC Sierra EV will go big at launch, premiering as the luxurious Denali when it arrives in early 2024.

Denali of EVs
“This is the Denali of EVs — and a truck that is every bit a GMC,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC. “That means it leaves nothing on the table when it comes
to hauling, towing and overall power while unlocking even more possibilities around what a GMC pickup can offer,” Aldred noted.

New Look
The 2024 GMC Sierra EV brings a new look to the truck brand with a new take on the classic GMC grille. With no need for airflow into an internal combustion engine, the solid grille takes on a different pattern and style depending on the trim level — on the Denali EV, the grille matches the body color. A unique lighting signature gives the truck a distinct look at night. Like its Chevrolet Silverado EV cousin, the GMC Sierra EV will be built on the new Ultium platform which integrates with the truck’s body structure. Although some truck purists may take issue with the unibody design (bed and cab are all part of the same structure), this setup allowed GMC designers and engineers the freedom to create several innovative features for the truck.

Denali Edition 1
The first Sierra EV to arrive will be the EV Denali Edition 1, which will be exclusively a 4-door crew cab with a bed that measures 5 feet 11 inches. For those who need additional capability, the Sierra features the Multipro Midgate which opens the front of the bed into the cabin, creating as much as nine feet between the back of the front seats and the tailgate. An available hard tonneau cover can create a lockable, weatherproof space for those long items, even with the midgate open. For those who remember the Chevrolet Avalanche, this feature is similar to that truck’s original midgate.

eTrunk
The GMC Sierra EV takes advantage of its EV architecture, making use of the space that would have normally housed a big V8 engine up front. Under the hood is a new eTrunk that provides an impressive amount of room in a waterproof, lockable space. There are two drains so this “frunk” (front trunk) can be filled with ice and used as a cooler. The space also houses a 120-volt power outlet for additional versatility.

Impressive Power
As the first Sierra EV, the Denali will launch out of the gate with an impressive powertrain. The dual-motor electric drive generates an estimated 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque in Max Power mode, delivering power to all four wheels. GMC estimates this big truck will be able to reach 60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds — certainly a fun party trick. The Sierra EV will also be able to tow up to 9,500 pounds or haul up to 1,300 pounds of cargo.

Range and Charging
GMC estimates that the new Sierra EV will have a range of around 400 miles on a full charge. With its 800V system, this electric pickup can take up to 350 kW from a DC Fast Charging station, which should add about 100 miles of range in 10 minutes.

Onboard Power
Another great feature of the GMC Sierra EV is the new Power Station Pro, which turns the truck into a mobile power station. When properly equipped, the Sierra EV can deliver 10.2 kW of power through up to 10 outlets in the cab and truck bed — perfect for powering a campsite or tailgate party. The system can also be configured as a bi-directional charger, with the ability to power the basic essentials of a typical home for as long as three weeks.

Driving Features
The 2024 GMC Sierra EV has several new features designed to improve the truck’s overall drive. Four-wheel steering improves maneuverability, with the ability to steer the front and rear wheels in opposite directions for a tight turning circle, or they can turn in series, allowing the Sierra to “crabwalk” — a feat that allows diagonal movement. The Sierra EV also features one-pedal driving, which maximizes regenerative braking and allows the driver to slow to a full stop simply by lifting off the throttle. The Sierra EV will also feature GM’s hand’s free driver-assistance system called Super Cruise.

Inner Space
The current Sierra Denali is among the most luxurious trucks on the market, and the new Denali EV will follow suit. The cabin will be trimmed in high-end materials including leather, open-pore wood, stainless steel, and aluminum accents. A new panoramic fixed glass roof gives the cabin an open, airy feeling. The glass reflects infrared light and has a UV coating to keep the cabin cool.

High Tech
Stepping into the Sierra EV with the key fob automatically brings the truck to life — all the driver needs to do is put the truck in gear and go. A large 16.8-inch vertical touchscreen display sits at the center of the dashboard. The screen can be split to run three apps at the same time. In addition, there is an 11-inch configurable driver display.

New Benchmarks
“This truck is everything customers know about the Sierra, but is so much more,” said Nichole Kraatz, chief engineer of GM Battery Electric Trucks. “Leveraging GM’s dedicated Ultium pickup
platform, it takes the Sierra franchise to new benchmarks of capability, versatility and luxury — all in a zero-tailpipe-emissions package,” noted Kraatz.

Coming in 2024
The 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 will be produced at GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant in Michigan. The truck is expected to arrive in showrooms in early 2024 at a starting price of $107,000. The Denali will be followed by the AT4 and Elevation trims later that year as 2025 models. More details about these two variants will come closer to their on-sale dates; expect prices to start around $50,000.
