New York Debuts
About a year ago Jeep introduced the largest model the brand had ever offered — the all-new Wagoneer and luxurious Grand Wagoneer. These represented the return of a legendary name that adorned one of the first SUVs when the model first went on sale in 1963. This week at the 2022 New York Auto Show, the Wagoneer grows in both in size and power when the iconic off-road brand reveals the extended-length 2023 Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L, which offer more space for cargo as well as more powerful twin-turbo engines.

Giving Customers What They Want
“The all-new Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are off to a great start, and we’re always striving to give customers even more of what they want,” said Senior Vice President and Head of Jeep Brand North America Jim Morrison. “The new Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L long-wheelbase models give our customers more: a more efficient and more powerful powertrain with the all-new Hurricane Twin Turbo engines, and even more space, delivering best-in-class overall passenger volume, second-row legroom and cargo volume behind the third row, all while maintaining best-in-class towing capability of 10,000 pounds and a rewarding driving experience that is confidence-inspiring,” Morrison enthused.

Extended Length
The 2023 Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L measure 226.7 inches — a full 12 inches longer than their standard-length siblings —and ride on a 130-inch wheelbase (7 inches longer than the standard). This doesn’t change passenger space, which is already quite generous, but it does add almost 16 cubic feet of cargo space.

Elegant Design
Like the standard-length version, the 2023 Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L feature a wide stance while emphasizing length via a flat roofline and a pronounced shoulder line that circumnavigates the entire vehicle, similar to the original. Wagoneer engineers minimized pillars to allow large windows that provide optimum outward visibility.

Familiar Grille
An iconic 7-slot Jeep grille ties Wagoneer to the off-road brand, and above the grille the model name gets spelled out in bold letters at the front edge of the hood. Wagoneer badging on the sides includes an American flag. The Grand Wagoneer grille has paint-over-chrome laser-etched grille rings similar to a knurled finish. The leading edge of the hood steps up to surround the grille, and Grand Wagoneer lettering sits on the top edge of the grille rather than on the hood.

Hurricane Power
The 2023 Wagoneer L will forego Jeep’s tried-and-true 5.7-liter V8 engine, instead sporting an all-new Hurricane Twin Turbo 3.0-liter 6-cylinder powerplant as standard equipment. Power output beats the V8 with 420 horsepower and 468 lb-ft of torque. For the Grand Wagoneer L, the high-output Hurricane Twin Turbo 510 is standard, bumping up to — you guessed it — 510 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. Both engines get teamed with TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmissions.

Towing
Even though the new Hurricane engines are more efficient and have lower emissions, the Wagoneer still offers strong towing capability. The Wagoneer L 2WD can tow up to 10,000 pounds (same as the V8), while the Grand Wagoneer L with its standard 4WD and high-output engine can haul a still-respectable 9,450 pounds.

Jeep Capability
And although the vehicles do not highlight their Jeep heritage via badging, the Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L still deliver proper Jeep off-road capability via three available 4-wheel-drive systems. Quadra-Trac I is full-time 4-wheel drive without any selection or switches needed. Quadra-Trac II features a 2-speed transfer case that can direct as much as 100 percent of torque to the wheel with the most traction. Quadra-Drive II adds an electronic limited-slip rear differential. Also available is the Selec-Terrain traction management system and Quadra-Lift air suspension that can raise ground clearance as high as 10 inches.

Fuel Economy
Not only are these Hurricane engines more powerful, they also improve fuel economy over the V8, in spite of the additional size and weight of the extended-length L variants. The 2WD Wagoneer is rated at 17 mpg city / 23 mpg hwy / 19 mpg combined — an improvement of 1 mpg over the 5.7-liter V8. The 4WD variant improves by 2 mpg over the V8. The high-output Hurricane 510 is rated at 14 mpg / 19 mpg / 16 mpg respectively — again a 1 mpg improvement over the corresponding 6.4-liter V8 engine.

Premium Interior
The Wagoneer L features a one-piece instrument panel, while the Grand Wagoneer L gets a two-piece design. The standard 10.25-inch frameless digital instrument cluster includes two dozen menus. The available full-color 10-inch head-up display offers three configurations. And if that isn’t enough variation, the 10.1-inch center display features the all-new Uconnect 5 infotainment system with an Android operating system, as well as a reconfigurable touchscreen with split-screen capability.

More Screens
The Grand Wagoneer adds a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12-inch center touchscreen, along with a 10.25-inch comfort display touchscreen below and a 10.25-inch comfort display touchscreen for the second row. An available 10.25-inch passenger display provides passenger control with four major functions: Co-Pilot (navigation, device management), entertainment, Fire TV for Auto, and views of the exterior vehicle cameras. Passenger screens in both the front and rear feature an HDMI connection that allows the screen to display a phone or tablet. When equipped with front passenger display, Relax Mode is available while the vehicle is in park, which combines multiscreen visuals with ambient lighting across the entire cockpit.

Rear-Seat Entertainment
Available rear-seat entertainment in the 2022 Wagoneer adds two 10.1-inch rear entertainment screens with independent streaming from major content providers. The system offers the first Fire TV for Auto integration featuring touchscreen displays, Alexa, and access to hundreds of thousands of movies, TV shows, and apps. Passengers can watch separately with headphones or through the vehicle’s audio system. With Fire TV for Auto built in, parents also have access to Amazon Kids+ to control content availability.

McIntosh Audio
The Wagoneer L Series III as well as the Grand Wagoneer L Series I and Series II offer the McIntosh MX950 Audio System — a custom-tuned 19-speaker system including a 10-inch subwoofer — all powered by a 17-channel 950-watt amplifier. Available on the Grand Wagoneer L Series I and Series II (standard on Grand Wagoneer L Series III) is a premium McIntosh MX1375 Reference Entertainment System that creates a tailored and immersive 3D adaptive sound processing experience. The system features 23 specifically tuned speakers — including one of the highest performing 12-inch subwoofers in the industry — powered by a 24-channel 1375-watt amplifier.

More Space
Both the Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L offer considerably more cargo space for those that want to use three rows of seats and still have room for all the luggage.

Wagoneer L Carbide
A new Wagoneer Carbide also makes its debut in New York, giving the big SUV a darker, stealthier look. The Carbide edition is available on both Wagoneer and Wagoneer L, standing out with Black Onyx grille rings, Gloss Black grille texture, a Diamond Black front fascia and Gloss Black wheels. The roof rack, badges, window / headlight surrounds and sill cladding are all trimmed in Gloss Black as well.

Carbide Interior
This special Wagoneer trim features a black headliner, technical hydrographic dash trim and Smoke accent stitching on the seats, instrument panel and door trim.
