2022 Volkswagen Tiguan
Volkswagen introduced the Tiguan in the U.S. more than 10 ten years ago when the German automaker entered the small crossover market for the first time. Although initial sales were slow, the small VW grew in popularity when the second-generation Tiguan arrived in 2016, and in time this small crossover became the best-selling model in Volkswagen’s U.S. lineup. Hoping to continue the Tiguan’s upward sales trend, today Volkswagen revealed an updated 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan with fresh styling, new technology and advanced driver-assistance features.

Strong Refresh
“The 2022 Tiguan represents a strong refresh for one of our best-selling SUVs,” said Hein Schafer, senior vice president for product marketing and strategy at Volkswagen. “It boasts sportier exterior styling, attainable technology, and competitive driver assistance feature deployment,” Schafer noted.

New Front-End Styling
The most obvious change for the 2022 Tiguan is a new front-end treatment. An all-new grille flows cleanly into updated LED headlights that are now standard on all Tiguans, with the higher-level trims getting a stylish LED line across the grille. This creates a visage similar to Tiguan’s larger siblings in the VW lineup. Bumpers have also been updated, and at the center of the grille sits the new Volkswagen logo.

Rear View
Similar to the update recently introduced on Volkswagen’s Arteon flagship sedan, the TIGUAN nameplate lettering is centrally located at the rear of the crossover below a large VW badge. And LED taillights are now standard for all trim levels.

The 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan gets updated wheel designs for the 2022 model year, with sizes ranging from 17 inches on the S trim to 20-inches on the top-level SEL R-Line.

Inner Space
The updated 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan interior possesses a high-tech vibe. With multiple digital displays, the small crossover is also available with a new soft-touch interface for the Climatronic climate control system. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are available, as is wireless device charging. Adding to the ambiance is an available 15-color ambient lighting system as well as a 480-watt Fender premium audio system.

Digital Cockpit
All 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan variants will be equipped with VW’s Digital Cockpit — an 8-inch display on the lower trims, a configurable 10-inch Cockpit Pro for the top trim. A new multifunction steering wheel is available, featuring illuminated soft-touch buttons and sliders.

Under the Hood
The powertrain of the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan remains unchanged for the new model year — a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing 184 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque, the latter available at a low 1600 rpm, providing responsive performance. All trim levels are equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Advanced Safety Features
For the 2022 model year, Volkswagen will make forward collision warning with autonomous braking, a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert standard on all Tiguan trims. Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE suite of safety features — optional on the base-level trim, standard on the rest of the lineup — adds lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, semi-automated driving assist and emergency assist. High-beam control, park assist and dynamic road sign recognition are also available.

Tiguan Lineup
When it goes on sale, the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan will be available in four trim levels: S, SE, SE R-Line Black and SEL R-Line. Even the base-level S comes well equipped with up-level features such as heated seats, an 8-inch digital driver display, keyless entry and 17-inch alloy wheels. Upper trim levels add a power tailgate, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, leatherette or leather seating surfaces, larger wheels and a panoramic sunroof.

The top-level trim of the new Tiguan is the SEL R-Line, which has 4MOTION all-wheel drive as standard equipment, as well as Fender premium audio, a 10-inch digital cockpit pro, heated and ventilated leather seats and 20-inch alloy wheels.
