2022 Mitsubishi Outlander
Today Mitsubishi revealed the redesigned 2022 Outlander crossover via livestream on Amazon Live, with next-generation design language for the brand, more interior room and the available Super All-Wheel Control all-wheel-drive system. Built on a new platform, the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander gets reengineered to provide a higher quality interior, more capability and innovative technology.

All-New Outlander

Bold Design
Mitsubishi describes the design concept for the 2022 Outlander as “Bold Stride” with a large, vertical grille that flows out at the upper corners into the daytime running lights and side marker lights. The “Dynamic Shield” wraps from the front fenders into the front fascia below the daytime running lights and surrounding the headlights, which are stacked in three rows with the fog lights positioned directly below.

Sculpted Profile
The 2022 Outlander features muscular wheel arches, a flat roofline and sharp accent lines sculpting the fenders and doors. The jet fin shape of the rear pillar is emphasized by chrome trim at the base of the windows that kicks up, as well as black trim at the top separating the roof. Up top, a roof spoiler extends the roofline.

Rear Design
At the rear, Mitsubishi’s “Hexaguard Horizon” design emphasizes the width of the 2022 Outlander, which is 2.0 inches wider than the previous model. A hexagon shape is stamped into the tailgate, said to be inspired by the Mitsubishi Pajero / Montero including a rear-mounted spare tire. The horizontal T-shaped taillights extend into the tailgate to emphasize width and wrap around into the rear fenders.

New Platform
Built on a new platform, the wheelbase of the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander increases by 1.4 inches and overall width by 2.0 inches, increasing space between seats and adding an additional 1.0 inch of legroom in the second row and 1.1 inches of legroom for the third row. To improve access to the cargo area, the opening at floor level increases by nearly 6 inches.

Interior Upgrades
The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander’s horizontal theme continues to the interior with a lower dash extending across from the driver’s side to emphasize the vehicle’s new width. The center display sits at eye level above the center console and is designed to appear as if floating. For the U.S. market Outlander is offered in four trim levels with different interior trim and seat materials. The Outlander SEL features leather-trimmed seats in light gray or black and aluminum interior trim; the SEL Touring adds semi-aniline leather with aluminum trim. Outlander SE and ES feature piano black interior trim with suede combination seats for SE in black; and fabric seats for ES in light gray or black.

Digital Driver Display
Mitsubishi offers two driver displays for the 2022 Outlander — an available 12.3-inch full-color LCD Digital Driver Display as well as a standard analog display with a 7.0-inch multi-information display in the center. The Digital Driver Display may be switched between a Classic mode and Advanced display, which can also be customized with a variety of information. A full-color 10.8-inch head-up display is also available. An 8.0-inch center infotainment display is standard and increases to 9.0 inches with optional navigation.

Under the Hood
The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander is powered by a reengineered 2.5-liter engine with output increasing by 8.9 percent compared to the previous model yet with improved fuel economy. The 2.5 liter gets paired with a continuously variable transmission that includes an 8-speed Sport mode for step shifts similar to an automatic transmission.

Super All-Wheel Control
Outlander is offered with Mitsubishi’s Super All-Wheel Control AWD system that uses a hydraulic clutch driven by an electric motor to distribute torque between the front and rear axles. When starting from a standstill, the Outlander’s power channels directly to the rear axle for a more balanced all-wheel-drive feeling and to minimize wheelspin in slippery conditions. Outlander is equipped with an improved S-AWC vehicle dynamics control system for a wide range of control in 4WD, as well as providing an effect similar to a differential lock in certain conditions.

Drive Modes
Six drive modes are offered with S-AWD on the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander: Eco, Normal, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow and Mud, with the first five available with 2WD. The modes allow the drive to choose the characteristics for different driving situations and road conditions.

Driver-Assistance Technologies
Mitsubishi’s available driver-assistance technologies include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and MI-PILOT Assist which integrates the previous two features to maintain distance between vehicles and keep the vehicle in the center of the lane. When equipped with navigation, MI-PILOT Assist will also read speed signs to adjust the set speed and adjust vehicle speed when approaching curves. Other assist technologies include traffic sign recognition, automatic high-beam headlights, hill descent control and trailer stability assist.

Safety Features
Standard safety features include forward collision mitigation, prediction forward collision warning, active blind-spot assist, blind-spot warning / lane change assist, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention, driver attention alert, rear automatic emergency braking, rear-cross traffic alert and a multiview camera system.
