2022 McLaren Artura
Some of the most exciting supercars emerge from the equally magnificent McLaren headquarters in Woking, UK, and today the company adds a new model to its lineup with the 2022 Artura. McLaren’s first series-production hybrid sports car, the Artura boasts an innovative lightweight chassis, fresh styling, a driver-focused interior and all the performance expected of a McLaren.

A Landmark Moment

New Powerplant
The McLaren Artura derives power from an all-new 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that generates 577 horsepower and 431 lb-ft of torque. In keeping with McLaren’s tradition of lightweight construction, this dry-sump aluminum engine weights a mere 353 pounds — 110 pounds less than McLaren’s V8. With a rev limit of 8500 rpm, the new engine should provide excellent performance and an intoxicating exhaust note.

Electric Power
Teamed with the powerful V6 engine is an axial flux E-motor that produces 94 horsepower and 166 lb-ft of torque. The compact electric motor resides in the transmission bell housing and delivers instantaneous torque for quick performance. The electric motor and gas engine are integrated via a disconnect clutch, and power gets directed to the road through a new twin-clutch 8-speed gearbox. In an interesting twist the gearbox has no reverse gear — instead the electric motor runs in reverse to back up the Artura.

Electrified Performance
With the combined force of the twin-turbo V6 engine and electric motor, the 2022 McLaren Artura generates a total of 671 horsepower and 531 lb-ft of torque. That power translates into a sprint to 62 mph in a mere 3.0 seconds, 124 mph in 8.3 seconds and 186 mph in 21.5 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 205 mph.

Plug-in Hybrid
The lithium-ion battery pack of the 2022 McLaren Artura has a capacity of 7.4 kWh, which allows the supercar to drive on pure EV power for an estimated 19 miles. Depending on the chosen drive mode, Artura will switch to EV mode when the car operates below 25 mph. Thanks to its hybrid powertrain, the Artura is the most fuel-efficient McLaren ever produced.

Tires and Brakes
McLaren fits the Arturo with standard carbon ceramic brakes and forged aluminum brake calipers – 6-piston in front, 4-piston in the rear. The bespoke Pirelli P-ZERO tires are manufactured exclusively for McLaren and fitted to a new 7-spoke cast alloy wheels that measure 19 inches in front and 20 inches at the rear. Two optional tires will be available: a Pirelli P-ZERO CORSA for ultimate performance on road or track, as well as a Pirelli SOTTOZERO for excellent winter performance.

Familiar but New
With the Artura, McLaren designers once again prove that a “form follows function” philosophy can still have beautiful results. With a long, low hood, steep windshield angle and flowing roofline, the Artura has what McLaren designers refer to as “perfect supercar proportions.” Large side air intakes further emphasize the powerful presence of this new sports car.

Headlights
The LED headlights of the 2022 McLaren Artura sit deeply within the bodywork and are quite complex, with each one containing 21 separate LEDs — four for the main beam, five providing a dipped beam, and the rest used for adaptive functionality. The headlight beam follows steering-wheel movement and can automatically dip with the auto high-beam assist.

Rear View
At the back of the 2022 McLaren Artura, very slim LED lights incorporate all functionality — taillights, brakes and turn signals — in the same unit. The centrally located large exhaust outlets lurk within mesh between the taillights.

Signature Doors
The 2022 Artura may be all new, yet it features signature McLaren dihedral doors; however, the doors have been redesigned to open closer to the body. The mirrors fold in tightly when needed, thus reducing the stress of opening the doors in tight parking situations.

Under the Skin
Not only does Artura showcase a new look for McLaren, under the skin it’s the first model to use new McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture. “The new McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA) is quite literally at the core of the super-lightweight engineering philosophy that is inherent throughout the Artura,” said Jamie Corstorphine, director of Product Strategy at McLaren Automotive. “We developed this all-new . . . supercar with all of our learnings from decades of working with advanced composite and other lightweight materials . . . ensuring greater energy efficiency and maintaining the outstanding agility and dynamic performance our customers expect,” Corstorphine noted.

Lightweight Architecture
The primary components of the automaker’s new MCLA construction are an all-new carbon fiber monocoque occupant structure, a new chassis with an aluminum rear subframe as well as innovative ethernet electric architecture. The new MCLA will be manufactured at the McLaren Composites Technology Centre in the Sheffield region of the UK, and it will become the basis of future McLaren supercars.

Interior
In keeping with previous McLaren supercars, the Artura has been designed for comfort and purpose with a driver focus. A new digital instrument cluster gets mounted directly to the steering column so it remains in optimum view even as the wheel position changes during driver adjustment. Switches for powertrain and handling modes are within the driver’s fingertips; however, the steering wheel remains clear of all invasive controls.

New Infotainment System
At the center of the 2022 McLaren Artura’s dashboard is an 8.0-inch vertically mounted high-resolution display, the primary location for comfort and convenience feature controls. Climate controls are always visible at the bottom of the screen. The new infotainment system uses an Android-based operating system that allows for easy updates. However, both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration are standard. A new vehicle key interacts with the system via Bluetooth and boots the system as the car is unlocked.
