2020 Ford GT
As the flagship sports car of the Ford Motor Company, the GT makes news wherever it appears. And at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show, the Blue Oval announced updates to its most impressive piece of machinery, including adding more power as well as creating new special editions. “Ford GT continues to be the pinnacle of Ford performance,” said Ed Krenz, Ford Performance chief program engineer. “GT is always the ultimate expression of Ford racing innovation, and as we know from the 1966 Le Mans through today, that means constantly raising our game for our customers as well as earning the checkered flag,” Krenz enthused.

More Power
For the 2020 Ford GT, engineers have drawn a bit more power from the GT’s 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine. A bump of 13 horses gives the GT a total output of 660 horsepower as well as a broader torque band for even better response and performance. The 2020 Ford GT also gets increased airflow with new buttress air ducts and larger intercoolers, which help preserve peak horsepower when pushing the car on hot days. Other updates include increased suspension damping in Track mode for better handling and body control during high-speed track maneuvers.

New Exhaust
An Akrapovic titanium exhaust system is also new for 2020, providing a nine-pound weight savings while still providing a wonderfully deep exhaust note.

Updated Gulf Racing Livery
Ford also announced an update to the Gulf Racing Heritage livery for the GT. With a new design that features a black pinstripe dividing the blue and orange, the updated look better recalls the iconic design of the 1968–69 LeMans-winning GT40. Carbon fiber wheels will be available instead of the standard aluminum alloy offering.

“Our team is very focused on delivering a car that exceeds customer expectations,” said Mike Severson, Ford GT program manager. “The black pinstripe and carbon fiber wheels have been highly requested with the Gulf livery, so we committed to making that happen,” Severson noted.

Liquid Carbon Edition
To properly showcase the GT’s lightweight sculpted carbon-fiber body, in Chicago Ford introduced a new edition of the GT called Liquid Carbon. Rather than cover the carbon fiber with paint, the Liquid Carbon version utilizes a special clearcoat paint to properly showcase the carbon fiber’s weave. Carbon fiber wheels are standard on the Liquid Carbon edition. Titanium lug nuts and five different caliper color options are available.
