More Space
Overall, the new Explorer is about the same length and width as the outgoing model; however, the wheelbase (the distance between the front and rear axles) is more than 6 inches longer, which puts the wheels farther to the corners of the vehicle for improved handling as well as more interior space. Thus cargo volume and passenger space have increased over the previous generation. In fact, with all rows folded flat the Explorer can take in a 4×8 sheet of plywood.
