Strong Showing
The annual Chicago Auto Show gets billing as the largest show in North America, which means plenty of space for exciting production and concept vehicle introductions, as well as some surprises. Trucks are always a focus here in Chicago, and this year was no different with big news from Chevrolet, Ford and Ram. A few automakers had milestone anniversary celebrations for some sports cars and minivans, and there were even some new 4-door sedans — proving that this vehicle class still has some miles to go. 2020 Alfa Romeo 4C Italia
With only a few hundred of these sporty Italian roadsters sold each year, the 4C is a rare sight on the road. For aficionados seeking something even more exclusive, there’s the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Italia. Alfa Romeo plans to sell a mere 15 of these unique roadsters in America, available for an additional $5,000 over the current 4C price. The limited-edition Italia features exclusive Misano Blue Metallic paint, piano black front air intakes and rear diffuser, and an aluminum dashboard insert depicting the 4C Spider Italia logo and a numbered placard on the center console.

2020 Alfa Romeo 4C Italia
The Alfa Romeo 4C is powered by a 1.7-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine positioned behind the cabin that produces 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Although this might not seem like much oomph for a sports car, the 4C weighs less than 2,500 pounds which makes it very quick — 60 mph arrives in 4.1 seconds on the way to a top speed of 160 mph. The Italian-styled roadster features a carbon fiber monocoque chassis which is both light and strong, allowing for excellent handling and performance. The 4C Italia is hand built in Modena, Italy.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD
This seems to be the year of the heavy-duty truck — all three of the big truckmakers are introducing new workhorse models with plenty of jockeying to see which is the most powerful and capable. In Chicago Chevrolet took the wraps off its all-new Silverado HD with bold new styling, a range of updated features and more capability than ever before. Longer, wider and taller than its predecessor, Silverado HD is available in a number of trim and cab configurations ranging from the basic Work Truck to the luxurious High Country.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD
Two powerful engines are available for the Silverado HD: a 401-horsepower 6.6-liter V8 and a Duramax 6.6-liter turbodiesel — the latter of which generates 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque. That big torque number is enough to increase maximum towing capacity to an incredible 35,500 pounds. The diesel is teamed with an all-new 10-speed automatic transmission. The list of available features is long and includes a power-operated tailgate, 15 camera views, a head-up display and integrated side steps for easy access to the bed.

2019 Chrysler Pacifica 35th Anniversary Edition
It may be hard to believe, but the minivan has now been around for 35 years — Chrysler introduced this versatile people mover back in 1984. Since the first Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager went on sale, Chrysler has sold more than 14.6 million minivans. To celebrate this milestone, Chrysler is introducing special 35th Anniversary editions of the Chrysler Pacifica and Pacifica Hybrid — the Dodge Grand Caravan will also be available in this special edition.

2019 Chrysler Pacifica 35th Anniversary Edition
The 35th Anniversary Edition is available on Pacifica Touring L, Touring L Plus and Limited versions, featuring 35th-anniversary badging and a Chrysler wing badge in liquid chrome, with gloss black inserts in the front fascia, grille and rear liftgate. Inside is an all-black interior with Cranberry Wine accents and Nappa leather trim on seats, steering wheel, door trim and door handles. The available S Appearance package can be combined with the 35th Anniversary Edition Pacifica or Pacifica Hybrid for a blackout exterior look.

2019 Dodge Challenger / Charger Sublime Green
The Dodge Challenger and Charger are proper modern-day muscle cars currently offered in a variety of fun, bright colors with names such as Go Mango, Plum Crazy and TorRed. In Chicago, Dodge showcased these two models in another color from the past — Sublime green. Sublime will be available on the full range of Chargers and Challengers, and can be had on the Challenger T/A for the first time since 1970.

2019 Ford F-150 Harley-Davidson
The 2019 Ford F-150 Official Harley-Davidson is a limited-availability custom truck modified by aftermarket customizer Tuscany Motor Company. This special truck stand apart from a standard F-150 with painted custom fender flares, custom front bumper with skidplate and integrated LED light bar, a Ram Air hood with Raptor-style hood insert, a honeycomb grille with painted accents, power-deploying lighted running boards with rock guards and painted fender vents with the iconic H-D Bar and Shield logo. There is also Harley-Davidson lettering on front doors, painted rear bumper caps, Harley-Davidson tailgate cladding and Harley-Davidson painted tonneau cover.

2019 Ford F-150 Harley-Davidson
More than simply a styling exercise, the F-150 Harley Davidson gets a BDS suspension system, FOX performance shocks, 22-inch Fatboy style wheels, 35-inch all-terrain tires, a Flowmaster performance-tuned exhaust and billet aluminum exhaust tips with orange accents. Inside are custom leather seats with an orange diamond pattern; Harley-Davidson embroidery; Harley-Davidson numbered emblem; accent color for door panels, dash and steering wheel; Harley-Davidson logo mats, door sills and steel gauges; and billet pedals. Previous F-Series Harley Davidson models were built and sold by Ford, but the 2019 F-150 Harley-Davidson on display at the Chicago Auto Show can be purchased direct from Tuscany Motor Company, or Ford dealers authorized by Tuscany.

2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500
With more than 700 horsepower on tap, the all-new Shelby GT500 is not only the most powerful street-legal Mustang the Blue Oval has ever produced, it also boasts more power than any other Ford product — including the mighty GT supercar. After making its debut in Detroit, the GT500 was one of the highlights of this year’s Chicago show. Most of the styling is purely functional and makes this special Mustang stand out from the crowd. Aero and cooling are both important for such a vehicle, and design elements include a louvered hood as well as an integrated rear spoiler. The double front-grille opening improves airflow for better cooling, and contributes more downforce as well.

2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500
At the heart of the new GT500 lurks a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that will generate more than 700 horsepower — rumor has it that it could be in the 750-horsepower range, but Ford has not yet released the official number. All that power and torque gets directed to the rear wheels via a carbon fiber driveshaft. Surprisingly, Ford will not offer the GT500 with a manual gearbox; the big V8 is teamed with a TREMEC 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that is capable of shifting gears in less than 100 milliseconds. Ford says the Shelby GT500 will sprint to 60 mph in the mid-3-second range and complete a quarter mile in less than 11 seconds. No top speed has been announced; however, we wouldn’t be surprised to see this ultimate Mustang approaching — perhaps even eclipsing — 200 mph.

2020 Ford Super Duty
The all-new 2020 Ford Super Duty was on display at the Chicago Auto Show following its debut in Dearborn, Michigan, on February 5. The new Super Duty offers its highest payload and tow ratings ever for conventional, gooseneck and fifth-wheel towing. The most powerful Super Duty to date will launch with two new engines: a 7.3-liter gasoline V8 and the third-generation 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V8 — both paired with a new 10-speed heavy-duty TorqShift automatic transmission. The standard engine will be the 6.2-liter gasoline V8 engine. Performance specs and power ratings have not been released.

2020 Ford Super Duty
Trailer towing is important to Super Duty buyers, so the new F-Series Super Duty now offers Pro Trailer Backup Assist and Trailer Reverse Guidance which is now compatible with fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailers. Pro Trailer Backup Assist helps with backing even the largest trailers into tight spaces. With hands off the steering wheel, the driver uses the Pro Trailer Backup Assist knob to steer the trailer via the reverse camera, while the Trailer Reverse Guidance system shows trailer angle and direction. Driver assistance features include a blind-spot information system with trailer coverage, and pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking.

2020 Kia Sportage
Kia debuted the 2020 Sportage at the Chicago Auto Show with updated exterior styling, a new S trim level and updated available driver-assistance features. The more aggressive exterior design includes new headlights with available LED turn indicators, redesigned projector-beam fog lights, available LED headlights with available LED fog lights, as well as a new grille, front bumper and wheel designs. At the rear, the 2020 Sportage receives new taillight trim, rear bumper and exhaust tip designs. A new Steel Grey exterior color is also added.

2020 Kia Sportage
The new S trim level gives Sportage some eponymously sporty exterior and interior design elements. The 2020 Sportage is also available in LX, EX and SX levels. Two engine choices are offered: a 2.4-liter that produces 181 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque, and a 2.0-liter turbo GDI that produces 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Available driver-assistance features include driver attention warning, lane-keeping assist, smart cruise control with stop & go, forward collision assist with pedestrian detection and high-beam assist. The 2020 Kia Sportage is scheduled to go on sale in the first half of 2019.

2019 Mazda MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition
Thirty years ago, Mazda made a big splash at the Chicago Auto Show with the introduction of a sporty new roadster called the MX-5 Miata. After selling more than one million of these fun-to-drive sports cars, Mazda has returned to the same venue to splash a bit more. To properly celebrate this momentous milestone, Mazda introduced a special 30th Anniversary MX-5.

2019 Mazda MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition
Sporting unique Racing Orange paint, this special roadster is equipped with forged-aluminum wheels developed exclusively for the MX-5 by Rays Co., Ltd. The anniversary edition also features orange brake calipers and orange interior accents, as well as Recaro seats, Bilstein dampers and a Bose audio system. Only 3,000 will be sold worldwide — a combination of soft-top and hardtop RF models — and all will have a 30th anniversary badge with a serial number.

2019 Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition
The new Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition is differentiated from other versions of the crossover SUV via a black mesh grille, dark 18-inch wheels, black molded fender guards, 255/60R18 all-season tires and black front and rear fascia accents. Other black elements include roof rails, door handles, mirrors, license plate surround and badges, with Rock Creek badges on the doors and liftgate. A trailer tow hitch, harness and splash guards are standard for the Rock Creek Edition.

2019 Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition
Inside, the Rock Creek Edition features two-tone seating surfaces, Rock Creek embroidery on the front seatbacks, premium metallic interior trim, Rock Creek floormats and contrast stitching for the seats, doors, console lid and steering wheel. The Rock Creek edition is available on the SV and SL trims in a choice of seven exterior colors — both 2- and 4-wheel drive are available. The Rock Creek package costs $995 and, according to the Nissan, represents a saving of up to $1,315 compared to similar equipment priced separately. The Rock Creek Edition of the 2019 Pathfinder is scheduled to go on sale in spring 2019.

2020 Nissan Rogue Sport
The revised 2020 Nissan Rogue Sport features a new front-end design to differentiate it more from the larger Nissan Rogue with a new hood, deeper V-Motion grille, a new front bumper and new headlights with LED signature daytime running lights. Also added are new rear combination lights, a new 19-inch wheel design and two more exterior colors: Nitro Lime Metallic and Monarch Orange Metallic.

2020 Nissan Rogue Sport
For 2019 Rogue Sport added a number of features that continue for the 2020 model, including available ProPILOT Assist, Nissan Safety Shield 360, an updated audio system with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an available Bose audio system with nine speakers. Nissan Safety Shield 360 — standard on all trim levels — includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear automatic braking, lane departure warning, radar-based blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert and high-beam assist. Rogue Sport will be offered in three trim levels: S, SV and SL — all powered by a 141-horsepower 2.0-liter engine combined with Xtronic continuously variable transmission and available intelligent all-wheel drive. The 2020 Rogue Sport is slated to go on sale in fall 2019.

2019 Ram 2500 Mopar Custom
A few weeks ago at the Detroit Auto Show, Ram debuted the all-new Heavy Duty with over-the-top capability, fresh styling and a completely redone interior. For Chicago, Ram handed a 2500 Heavy Duty over to the folks at Mopar to showcase what is possible when it comes to accessorizing this new big truck. “The Mopar-modified Ram 2500 Heavy Duty on display at the Chicago Auto Show is the latest example of our commitment to offering owners a full product line to choose from right at launch of FCA US LLC vehicles,” said Steve Beahm, head of Mopar parts and service Mopar as well as passenger car brands for FCA North America. “Whether it’s for the trail, the street or the worksite, Mopar will have more than 170 parts and accessories that provide a path to enhanced capability for the new 2019 Ram Heavy Duty,” Beahm effused.

2019 Ram 2500 Mopar Custom
The truck on display in Chicago started out as a 2019 Ram 2500 Big Horn painted in Blue Streak, which is a production color. Parts featured on this unique rig include a powder-coated Ram Bar equipped with 5-inch LED off-road lights, Mopar off-road wheel flares, off-road rock rails and 17-inch custom-milled concept beadlock wheels fitted with aggressive Goodyear tires. A conceptual rear spare tire carrier fitted into the bed holds up to a 37-inch tire. Inside are brushed stainless steel door sill guards carrying the RAM text logo, Mopar all-weather floor mats, and auxiliary switches that integrate with the off-road lights up top.

2019 Ram Chassis Cab
The truck wars continue as Ram introduced its all-new range of chassis cab heavy-duty trucks in the City of Big Shoulders. Available as a 3500, 4500 or 5500, these trucks are built for all sorts of uses that require big payloads and extreme towing. The capability stats are quite impressive — Ram Chassis Cabs can tow up to 35,220 pounds or handle a payload of more than 12,500 pounds. And while these may be proper work trucks, they can still be equipped with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking with or without trailer brakes.

Not all chassis cabs are built exclusively for work — buyers can opt for the Limited which doesn’t skimp on capability yet carries its passengers in luxurious surroundings. The Limited can be equipped with leather-trimmed seats, a 12-inch fully reconfigurable vertical display screen, multiple USB ports and a 750-watt Harmon Kardon audio system with 17 speakers and an 8-inch woofer.

2019 Ram Multifunction Tailgate
So the Ram Multifunction Tailgate isn’t exactly a new vehicle per se, but it’s innovative enough to merit a mention. Until a few years ago, a pickup truck tailgate didn’t really do anything but open and close — that has changed. Now manufacturers offer power tailgates as well as versions that fold and split in multiple ways. Ram has responded with this dual side-hinged tailgate for the new Ram 1500. “The Ram multifunction tailgate is intuitive to operate and owners will find it immediately useful,” said Reid Bigland, head of the Ram brand at FCA. “Combined with Ram’s class-exclusive RamBox feature and new tailgate step, we’re taking Ram’s cargo management and storage to the next level,” Bigland noted.

2019 Ram Multifunction Tailgate
The tailgate can be opened flat like a normal tailgate, or each side can be opened individually like a door. With the left side open, a step can be pulled out from beneath the bumper, making it easy to step into the bed, using the tailgate/door for support. This new system allows easier access to the bed while retaining the tailgate’s 2,000-pound load rating. The Multifunction Tailgate is available on all trim levels of the Ram 1500; retail price is $995.

2020 Range Rover Evoque
The 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque was shown for the first time in the U.S. at this year’s Chicago Auto Show. The familiar Range Rover Evoque profile features a fast roofline and a rising beltline with pronounced shoulders and strong wheel arches. The exterior update adds new slim LED headlights, slim LED taillights, flush door handles and bold air intakes in the lower front fascia.

2020 Range Rover Evoque
In addition to the standard 246-horsepower gasoline engine, the new Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic gets a new 48-volt mild-hybrid powertrain producing 296 horsepower. Overall dimensions are similar to the previous model, but the wheelbase has been increased for more rear-seat legroom and more cargo space. The optional 360 Surround Camera system includes ClearSight Ground View technology to give the driver a view under the front of the vehicle for easier maneuverability on or off pavement. Starting price for the 2020 Range Rover Evoque in the U.S. is $42,650 — not including destination/handling charge — and it goes on sale in spring 2019.

2020 Subaru Legacy
This year in Chicago Subaru unveiled the next new model to adopt the automaker’s global platform: the all-new 2020 Subaru Legacy. Based on the dynamic driving improvements of the previous models, the new platform should transform Subaru’s stalwart sedan into the best-driving Legacy yet. The 2020 Legacy also receives a lighter yet stronger suspension. The new system — combined with a lower center of gravity and a more rigid body — should deliver improved steering response, better handling and a smoother, quieter ride. Like other models in the Subaru lineup (except BRZ), the new Legacy comes with Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system as standard equipment, as well as active torque vectoring for better handling. Also standard is Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assistance system that provides automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control as well as lane departure warning.

2020 Subaru Legacy
Although the 2020 Legacy is completely new under the skin, the exterior design appears more evolutionary than revolutionary. The frameless hexagonal grille matches styling in the rest of the Subaru lineup, and narrow headlights give the Legacy a wide stance. One standout feature on this new Legacy is a large 11.6-inch vertical high-definition touchscreen display. Standard on Premium, Sport and Limited trims, the new integrated screen features direct access to climate controls, multimedia and other vehicle controls. This new Legacy will offer an optional turbocharged engine — the first time since 2012. The available 2.4-liter turbocharged engine produces a plentiful 260 horsepower.

2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Heritage Edition
Shown for the first time at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show, Toyota has created the limited-availability 2020 Land Cruiser Heritage Edition. In 1958 the Land Cruiser became one of the first Toyota vehicles sold in the U.S., and now this special edition helps celebrate the big SUV’s 60 years of production. Configured as a two-row model to maximize cargo capacity, the Land Cruiser Heritage Edition offers a choice of Midnight Black Metallic or Blizzard Pearl exterior color with black accented grille, bronze-colored 18-inch BBS forged-aluminum wheels with TOYOTA center caps and vintage-style Land Cruiser badges on the rear pillars.

2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Heritage Edition
Inside, the Land Cruiser Heritage features black leather upholstery and contrast stitching in the same bronze color as the wheels for the seats, steering wheel, door trim, center stack and console. The Land Cruiser is powered by a 5.7-liter V8 engine producing 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque, combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission and a full-time all-wheel-drive system with a TORSEN limited-slip locking center differential and a 2-speed transfer case with low range. On sale in late summer 2019, only 1,200 Land Cruiser Heritage Editions will be produced.

2020 Toyota RAV4 TRD Off-Road
Toyota debuted the RAV4 TRD Off-Road at the Chicago Auto Show with engineering and design features from Toyota Racing Development for the new fifth-generation RAV4 that launched two months ago. The RAV4 TRD Off-Road include standard Dynamic Torque Vectoring All-Wheel Drive and suspension inspired by the Rally RAV4 race team. Fitted with lighter and more rigid flow-formed 18-inch matte-black TRD alloy wheels, RAV4 TRD Off-Road also receives Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail all-terrain tires.

2020 Toyota RAV4 TRD Off-Road
The 2020 RAV4 TRD Off-Road shares exterior elements with RAV4 Adventure including roof rails, large over-fenders, aggressive bumpers, grille design and fog light surrounds. the two-tone Magnetic Gray Metallic with Ice Edge roof is exclusive to RAV4 TRD Off-Road, and Midnight Black or Lunar Rock are also available with the optional Ice Edge roof. Ruby Flare Pearl and Super White are also RAV4 TRD Off-Road colors. Inside, RAV4 TRD Off-Road includes red stitching and red accents with seats covered in SofTex, and TRD stitched into the front headrests. TRD all-weather floor mats and cargo mat are also included. Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro
The Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro debuted at the Chicago Auto Show and joins the TRD Pro models of Tacoma, Tundra and 4Runner. Easily identified by its TRD Pro Toyota grille, the Sequoia TRD Pro features LED headlights, Rigid LED fog lights, a TRD front skidplate, cast aluminum running boards, a roof rack, TRD Pro door badges, TRD 18-inch black BBS forged aluminum wheels and 275/65R18 tires. The TRD tuned suspension includes Fox aluminum-bodied internal bypass shocks.

Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro
Powered by a 381-horsepower 5.7-liter V8 engine, Sequoia TRD Pro is available with a single-outlet TRD cat-back exhaust with a black chrome tip. Army Green is an exclusive color for TRD Pro and other options include Super White, Midnight Black Metallic and Magnetic Gray Metallic. Inside, Sequoia TRD Pro features black leather-trimmed seats, red stitching, TRD Pro stitched into the front head restraints and TRD Pro all-weather mats.

2020 Toyota Supra
After debuting in Detroit in January 2019, the 2020 Toyota Supra was on display in Chicago and is scheduled to go on sale in summer 2019. Both the design and the front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout draw from the 1967 Toyota 2000 GT and the fourth-generation 1993–2002 Toyota Supra. The front fascia was inspired by the fourth-gen Supra and the double-bubble roof design pays tribute to the 2000 GT. At the front, the 2020 Toyota Supra’s 6-lens LED headlights incorporate daytime running lights and turn signals, creating a unique lighting signature for the new car. The circular rear combination lights include the taillights, brake lights and turn signals with LED backup lights located at the center of the bumper.

2020 Toyota Supra
The 2020 Toyota GR Supra is powered by a turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine — another nod to the fourth-generation Supra, which offered a turbocharged inline 6-cylinder unit. The Supra was developed in conjunction with BMW, and the 3.0-liter twin-scroll turbo engine in the Supra produces 335 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque with peak torque available at low engine speeds. The only transmission offered is an 8-speed automatic with standard paddle shifters for manual shifting. Toyota expects the Supra to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds with a top track speed limited to 155 mph. 2020 Toyota Tacoma
Toyota’s popular midsize truck is updated for the 2020 model year with new grille and wheel designs for most trim levels and an upgraded audio system with a larger touchscreen and Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa compatibility. Tacoma SR5 and above receive a 10-way power-adjustable seat with power lumbar support and a larger 8-inch touchscreen. The base Tacoma SR receives a new grille and revised taillights with a dark housing, while Tacoma SR5 adds a unique grille design, 16-inch dark satin wheels, darker taillight housings and new seat fabric.

2020 Toyota Tacoma
Tacoma TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road receive new grilles, new LED fog lights and chrome taillight inserts, while TRD Sport also adds 17-inch wheels. The top-line Tacoma Limited features a new grille, 18-inch alloy wheels, standard LED headlights, LED DRL, chrome taillight inserts and standard Panoramic View Monitor. The 2020 Tacoma TRD Pro features unique sequential LED headlights, a new 16-inch wheel design, black taillight inserts, standard Rigid Industries LED fog lights, standard Panoramic View Monitor and Multi Terrain Monitor. Army Green is exclusive to TRD Pro models and Super White, Midnight Black Metallic and Magnetic Gray Metallic are also offered.

2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI
Last year Volkswagen introduced an all-new Jetta that offers more space, better driving dynamics and an overall design that gives the popular sedan a more upscale appearance. Now the German automaker brings performance into the picture with the introduction of the latest Jetta GLI at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show. The new Jetta GLI is the sixth generation of this high-performance 4-door sedan for the U.S. market. The new GLI certainly looks the part of a sport sedan with a black honeycomb grille, LED projector headlights, red brake calipers, 18-inch alloy wheels and a red accent line that ties in nicely with its GTI cousin.

2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI
But the GLI is not simply about looking sporty — it has the powertrain to back up those good lines. Under the hood resides a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque — an additional 18 horses versus the previous version of the Jetta GLI. Power in the new Jetta GLI gets sent to the front wheels via a standard 6-speed manual gearbox. A quick-shifting 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox is also available. In addition to the great looks and increased power, the new Jetta GLI has suspension and brake upgrades to match. All GLIs come with an independent sport suspension and large vented brakes shared with the Golf GTI and Golf R.
