Rogue Round 2
In 2016 the Rogue midsize crossover-utility vehicle became Nissan’s best-selling model in the U.S., surpassing sales of the Altima midsize sedan. Building on that resounding success, the Japanese automaker revealed a new compact crossover in Detroit at the 2017 North American International Auto Show. Using the same platform and sharing safety and technology features with the Rogue, the new compact 5-passenger Rogue Sport rides on a wheelbase that is 2.3 inches shorter; the overall length is 12.1 inches shorter.

Tale of Two Rogues
“The combination of the new Rogue Sport and the immensely popular redesigned 2017 Rogue will appeal to a broad audience and offers a wide spectrum of features and price points for SUV buyers,” said Michael Bunce, vice president of product planning for Nissan North America. “While we expect Rogue to continue to appeal to owners with young families, Rogue Sport fills a need for singles and couples who want more space and versatility than the average sedan for everyday urban use and social activities,” Bunce noted.

Rogue Similarities
The styling and shape of the new Rogue Sport are similar to the original Rogue, including a sporty V-motion grille, a detailed headlight design, LED daytime running lights, available fog lights, strong fender lines and side profile character lines. At the rear are LED boomerang-shaped taillights and a rear spoiler. Bumpers are body-color with black wheel arches and roof moldings.

Powertrain
Rogue Sport is powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine producing 141 horsepower and 147 lb-ft of torque, combined with an Xtronic continuously-variable transmission and either front- or all-wheel drive. With a sporty exterior design and a premium interior feel, Rogue Sport features 4-wheel independent suspension including an independent rear multi-link with a stabilizer bar for a sporty ride.

Interior
Inside, the Rogue Sport follows Nissan’s “gliding wing” interior design with a symmetrical flow from the upper dash into the doors, sweeping around the driver and front passenger. The standard driver’s seat is 6-way adjustable, the passenger seat is 4-way adjustable, and rear-seat riders get a 60/40 split-folding bench. Available options include a power 6-way adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, leather-trimmed seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a leather-wrapped shift knob and a heated steering wheel.

Trim Levels, Safety Features
Rogue Sport will be offered in three trim levels when it goes on sale in the U.S. in spring 2017: S, SV and SL. Standard equipment on the Rogue Sport S includes Hill Start Assist, Active Trace Control, Active Engine Braking and Active Ride Control. Available Nissan Intelligent Safety Shield technologies include radar-based Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Forward Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Prevention and Forward Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection.

Rogue Sport SV
In addition to the standard equipment on Rogue Sport S, Rogue Sport SV adds 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with 215/60R17 all-season tires, Dual-Zone Automatic Temperature Control, Nissan Intelligent Key, a silver-finish roof rack, a Divide-N-Hide cargo system and LED turn signal indicators on outside mirrors.

Rogue Sport SL
The topline Rogue Sport SL adds leather-appointed front seats; remote start; NissanConnect with Navigation, Mobile Apps and Services; a 7-inch color touchscreen display; heated front seats; Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection; 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with 225/45R19 all-season tires; fog lights; heated outside mirrors; a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel; and a leather-wrapped shift knob.

Colors and Expectations
Rogue Sport will be offered in 10 exterior colors including Monarch Orange and Nitro Lime. Although the Rogue Sport is new to the U.S. market, it is also sold in other markets as the Nissan Qashqai. Based on sales in those other markets, Nissan expects the Rogue Sport to also do well in the U.S. market.
